I just got a iPhone 3GS and it's on firmware 4.3.1 with a 5.16.02 baseband...is it possible to jailbreak and unlock and if so what do I need to use?

Jailbreak with Redsn0w RC 14 and choose ipad baseband update , install cydia and unlock with Ultrasn0w from Cydia after the jailbreak.Note : You may lose GPS functionality if you choose to do the ipad bb update.

Ok I don't wanna lose that...can I just jailbreak and not unlock? I use AT&T so the unlock is useless to me anyway
Yes, you can j/b it as instructed , do not check update to iPad's bb. And don not run redsnow!!

correct , just choose install cydia to jailbreak and stay with atnt as your official carrier
