Upgrade from 4.0.1 to latest firmware.

I really hope someone can help me. I have an Iphone 3gs and the last firmware version I installed was 4.0.1. I did this via Jailbreakme.com. Since then I havent thought to upgrade but now I feel its time as getting problems with certain apps and cydia. I currently use Windows software on my computer.

Is there a way to easily upgrade my phone or do I need to go through the whole process of restoring then re-jailbreaking?

Really hope someone can help me and looked online but so many confusing answers.
