    Default 4.0.1 > 4.3.2 - Before I do it...

I haven't jailbroken since THAT version i'm on. Been a while... And i've never backed up blobs or whatever you call it..

prior to upgrading my OS... what should I do ? and does Backing up blobs keep all the files i've purchased/customization over cydia for example ?

and when I actually go to do it, do i restore my firmware back to factory, and then upgrade and jailbreak with pwnage?

(running mac with 4.0.1 fw iphone 4)

    Thanks for the help !

SHSH dont backup anything other than the ability to restore to a certain firmware.

Do you need to unlock or are you on a official carrier?

Well cydia is having big issues with anything purchased right now so if you were to go to 4.3.2 and rejailbreak you may not be able to reinstall all of your cydia stuff right now.

Since you are on official carrier you have no need to unlock/preserve baseband (unless you want to unlock at some point in the future). So all you have to do is update to 4.3.2 normally in iTunes, then rejailbreak with redsnow 0.9.6rc14.

Or pwnage tool. Should I back up my phone via blobs? And if I do would recovering it bring my files back?

    ?????

    Sync your iPhone first.
Restore to 4.3.2 through apple server to update bb.
    Don't setup your iPhone yet.
Leave ur official sim to activate.
    Jailbreak with redsn0w now .
Now you can do a backup restore from iTunes .

All your data will be intacts

As I said SHSH have nothing to do with backing up your stuff. iTunes does a backup of anything iTunes related everytime you sync. Pkgbackup from cydia can do the same for jailbreak stuff.
