Well redsn0w is easier so I would just use that unless you have a reason to preserve your baseband for unlock purposes. Other than that, they use the exact same exploit so neither is really superior

redsn0w can be done without wiping the device.
pwnage tool creates an ipsw which maintains your baseband. It requires you to install the ipsw which means wiping your handheld and then restoring. pwnage tool is also Mac OS only, redsn0w is for either.
Both will do the same thing in the end, jailbreak your device.
