Default can't jailbreak ipod touch 3gen 3.1.3, tried EVERYTHING

I have read every possible forum online about my issues trying to jailbreak an ipod touch. It's a MC model number, 3.1.3 firmware and I have Itunes 10 installed. I have tried Spirtjb and even changed my compatibility to windows 98 AND tried 95, but still get the same c....05 error that was supposed to be fixed. I have also tried Redsn0w, but after unhiding folders, etc, it would not accept the firmware I have. I have also tried jailbreakme.com from the Safari app on ipod and that won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need a step by step because I'm not very tech savvy. I have tried downloading diff firmware etc, and every forum leads me to different downloads. I'm so helpless...thanks!

Why don't you restore to 4.3.2. Make sure you have the latest iTunes installed and the jailbreak your itouch with redsn0w Rc14 . Run redsn0w in xp2 compatibility mode

    Default how to restore?

Thanks for the suggestion! How do I go about restoring the firmware on my ipod? I looked all over Itunes and the only updates I see are to update the Itunes itself. Not sure how to get new firmware on the ipod...

    Thanks!!

    Default firmware 4.2

The only version update on my Itunes 10.2 is firmware 4.2. IS that what I need to upgrade to so I can jailbreak with that redsn0w you recommended?

Google search iclarified iPod firmware. Download 4.3.2 ipsw onto your desktop.
Run iTunes: shift + restore to 4.3.2 ipsw
    Download Redsn0w RC14 as well.
Once restored , do not setup iPod touch yet.
Jailbreak your itouch with redsnow , you have to browse to 4.3.2 ipsw fw.
Once jailbroken , update cydia and then setup ur iPod either as backup restore or new iPod.
All done , this is easier than your final year exams

All you had to do was open iTunes, plug in your iPod, and click the update button.

Anyway, since you are downloading it, after the ipsw downloads, open iTunes, plug in your iPod, and click on your iPods name on the sidebar. Now press the shift button and click the restore button at the same time. Find the 4.3.2 ipsw you just downloaded, and let iTunes update you.
