Simple questioned I purchased an Iphone 3gs which was Jailbroken and unlocked. The person I bought it from did a master reset so now the phone is stuck on the apple logo. He said it was on 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 he is not sure but he has had the phone for over a year. So I am sure it is an older version. If I restore the firmware to 3.1.3 through Itunes will it update the baseband to the 5.15.04 or will it maintain the previous baseband? I need the unlock so any help would be appreciated.
It will not update the baseband to a non unlockable state.
You will however need SHSHs to restore it to anything besides 4.3.2.
You can check for SHSHs with TinyUmbrella by clicking "Save SHSHs" but if the owner before did not save SHSHs prior then the device cannot be restored to any fw except 4.3.2. With that being said, you'll want a restore to custom firmware for 4.3.2 then to keep the baseband from upgrading.
Edit: pwnagetool custom 4.3.2 fw is tethered.

Does Tiny Umbrella still have an option that will prevent the iPhone's baseband from being updated? I used it once and it worked well but I know it was broken in 4.1 but I didn't know if it was ever brought back. If so you could use that
Yes the big white box is blank when I plug my 3g in I have stored shsh for everything from 4.0 and up. But nothing shows up for the 3gs. The only info it gives me is the ECID but that is all. Is there another way to check if it is stored on Cydia's server?
Well it isn't about if they show up in Cydia, we want the SHSHs to show up bc then they're pulled into TU.
Have you tried another computer? If all else fails you can attempt a restore with the TSS server running to the fw you know you have SHSHs for. It may or may not work without pulling them into TU.
Yeah I have thought about just going for it. I don't know what was used to jailbreak the phone with or I would follow one of the SnOwbreeze tutorials.
I really don't need to update the firmware just need to preserve the unlock. I did a 3g before christmas and had no problems it did not update the baseband. But that was with itunes v9 not the v10 so just not sure if it automatically updates baseband anytime you restore if it only does it when updating to new firmware.
