SO Frustrated!!
My iPhone4 will not resore/update to 4.2.3 it just hangs with the restore progress bar at like 60% and the itunes screen at like 90%. I have unchecked the host box on tinyumbrella. This is the second time I am encountering this, it happened with the previous firmware as well. I unchecked cydia hosts and it restored fine...but ths time nothing.

Have you tried to restore to a custom firmware by putting your phone into DFU mode?

Have you ever had WiFi Sync installed on ur phone & computer?
If so, delete it off the computer. It can also cause this problem.

Ok I dont have wifiSync on my computer....I do think it has to do with the TinyUmbrella crap. How do I completely remove any trace of it on my phone or computer so that it doesnt happen again??

Removing TU will not fix the Hosts file... You'll have to do that manually.
Uninstall TU, first
Google: edit Hosts file for (whatever operating system you have)
Remove the string: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
REMEMBER TO SAVE THE EDITED HOSTS FILE AFTERWARDS!!!!!
Reboot ur computer and recheck to make sure that string is not listed in the Hosts file.
If it's gone, restore w/ iTunes.
Let us know...

open TU and go to the advanced tab and uncheck "ser goats to cydia on exif", then apply changes close and reopen itunes.
