3GS unlocked 4.0.2 baseband 05.13.04

Full Disclosure. Newbie. Searched this forum and am still confused.

Purchased eBay Unlocked 3GS 4.0.2 baseband 05.13.04. Phone appears to work fine. Can run on t-mobile SIM. But, would feel better if I knew I could do a restore if anything goes wrong. I do not have the SHSH for the unlocked phone. Tried to use tinyumbrella to save and Apple is not longer signing.

Can someone advise. I am willing to wait, if that is wise thing to do. I want to preserve the unlock, since I travel to europe and want to add prepaid SIM with data plan, as needed. But would like to be able to save SHSH for the phone.

If downgrade is most stable approach, please advise. Pointing to documentation in forum is good too.

If upgrade is good, I need GPS function for europe, so upgrade to IPAD broadband does not look wise. Again, if you recommend upgrade, please advise or point to documentation.

never hurts to be too careful. look, i understand you want gps and unlock, got it.

open TU and click save save all shsh, it'll grab all it can for your device. anything t lists you can restore to.

restore/upgading you ahould ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use pwnagetool(mac) or sn0wbreeze(win) to upgrade/reetore if you want to keep your unlock.

so, wait fo ios 4.3.2 pwnagetool/sn0wbreeze and make a custom fw, put device in pwned dfu mode and restore to that custom fw you made. you'll keep your unlock and me rocking the latest and greatest.

wait till the dev team release pwnagtool/ih8sn0w eelease sn0wbreeze dor ios 4.3.2 of course (depending on your pc). should be within next week or two.

I probably did not explain this well. I think when you said "open TU and click save save all shsh, it'll grab all it can for your device. anything t lists you can restore to." you were talking about TinyUmbrella. I had already downloaded TinyUmbrella v4.30.05. I plugging the unlocked ebay 3GS using USB cable. Let itunes complete sync. Then ran TinyUmbrella. I select the unlocked ebay 3GS and click Save SHSH. I am trying this again now.

WOW!! It worked. I selected the connected iphone and tinyumbrella came back with 2 SHSH. 4.1 and 4.3.1

Thanks for the help. So, see if I have the basics right. If somehow I add an app from Cydia that conflicts on my iphone and screws it up, since I have the 2 SHSH, I can use sn0wbreeze (I use XP) to create a custom firmware that keeps my old broadband but will be either 4.1 or 4.3.1. Right. Another dumb question. I assume I'd better create that custom firmware NOW before my iPhone crashes? Or can I make the custom firmware with a crashed iphone as long as I know that I want to restore to 4.1 or 4.31.

Other dumb question. You mention FW 4.3.2. Do you alway create a custom firmware for each OS upgrade, 'just in case'. If so, why?

Doesn't matter when you create it, just might be nice to have the files ready to go in case you do need your phone within the next 30 minutes instead of having to download the ipsw, then doing the snowbreeze modifications, then restoring. Save yourself time. Your phone has no part in this really, it isn't required to make the snowbreeze ipsw.
