My 3GS new bootrom on 6.15 refuses to function after upgrading to 4.3.1, and there's no way to be sure it even worked. Each method I try, using a clean IPSW, snowbreeze, redsn0w, it all ends the same. It looks like its upgrading, the apple logo with the loading bar is there, but when its finished instead of rebooting to the activation screen it just shuts off and there's no way to turn it on. Itunes thinks its in recovery, but I cant kick it out with tinyumbrella or ibooty. Its just a brick. There's nothing I can do with it but downgrade back to 4.2.1, which thankfully still works. Help?
Wait...slow down...can you explain this to me step by step? What server? And do I create a custom firmware with snowbreeze and then use redsn0w? I'm not sure if redsn0w can even read custom firwmwares...or are you talking about something else? *confused*
Thats pretty much what I did before, several times. And isn't using redsn0w just to go into DFU mode a little much? Wont iREB be enough for that? Or do I really need to go into the whole jailbreak process with redsn0w and THEN jailbreak with custom firmware? Sorry for being such a noob, I'm really grateful for your help. I'm just really weary about doing this again...
eh i guess ireb works too, redsn0w is extremely hard to detect your device in dfu, but i know first hand that it does what it says it does.

you cant restore to a custom fw to jb with redsn0w, just use it to put device in pwned dfu mode.

you could try going back to ios 4.2.1 and triple checking that host file (which will allow you to go to ios 4.3.1, google how\where it is) then putting device into pwned dfu mode via redsn0w and restore to ios 4.3.1, again ensuring that the host file is set properly.

I recommend trying the this method below first...
i am also hearing reports that apple is still signing ios 4.3.1 for now, so you may have to, in tiny umbrella, under advanced, tell it to not set cydia host on exit...which wouldn't request it from cyda but from apple, which would still work and actually restore (cydia only really works when its not being signed anymore)
Oh my god...it actually worked...it woke up after the update and actually worked. Thank you so much! The only change I made was changing that setting in TU and not using redsn0w at all, and it worked. Thanks a lot. 1000 kudos to you.
With ipad baseband update, you cannot restore to any stock firmware of 4.2.1 or higher. You will definitely end up in recovery mode and nothing can kick it out.
Your only solution is to restore to custom firmware of 4.2.1 or higher.
