Default Very old iPhone 3G jailbreak/unlock questions

Hey, I have a iPhone 3G here still running 2.2.1 with baseband 2.30.03

I want to jailbreak and unlock the phone preferably I'd like to have it on a baseband that is not 6.15.00 so can I upgrade this phone to say 3.1 and then custom firmware restore up to 4.2.1?

    Thanks

I suggest restoring first to 3.1.3. Once there you can jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.4 if you like. Or you can go from there to a custom 4.2.1 made with pwnage tool or snowbreeze. That way you can preserve the 3.1.3 baseband so that you can unlock.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, can I just straight up shift+restore to 3.1.3? No SHSH and no DFU or anything like that?

Yup, no SHSH required for 3.1.3 for iPhone 3G. Not 100% on if you need to be in DFU though.
