Problem now is, if you have not saved any SHSH yet, I think you are out of luck with 4.3.1 (Apple has stopped signing) and 4.3.2 jailbreak is a tethered (meaning you need to connect it to your PC and use a program to boot it properly if your phone does a reboot). I would stay with 4.2.1 for now until there is a confirmed working 4.3.2 untether.
Run TinyUmbrella, click on save shsh, and see what is saved for your phone. If you have 4.3.1 available, then you can restore to it.
What data is so important that you cannot lose? If you can provide that, there are usually ways to save it and restore it afterwards. A backup in iTunes saves most of the stuff (not the cydia stuff though) and settings.

Does that mean apple will sign 4.3.2? I don't udst the term SHSH..
What are the steps required to upgrade firmware after jb without losing data? possible?
Once 4.3.2 official unthethered is released, will it be risky for me to try it out?
    Thanks.

oh meaning the app store apps in ********** will not be backed up because its not genuine? I dun wan to lose my contact mainly..
If 4.3.2 is out, then i simply restore my ph , upgrade then rejb then set up phone from backup?

    Apple is only signing 4.3.2.
SHSH is like a signature for your phone that is linked specifically to your phone and the apple IOS version. So by having your "SHSH blob" for a specific version saved, you can install that version if Apple decides to no longer officially sign it any longer. If you don't have this SHSH blob, you are limited to what Apple is signing.
You upgrade your "firmware" first, then you jailbreak, or you can create a custom firmware that also jailbreaks at the same time.
For cydia, the best app to back up with appears to be pkgbackup. For the rest, I usually just use iTunes.
Can't say for the jailbreak, must wait for it to come out first.

I sync my google contacts list with my iphone so I don't worry about that unless something happens to my google account. You can set this up in iTunes.
Cydia is not backed up at all (apps or settings/themes/etc) through iTunes.

PkgBackup saves EVERYTHING in your phone! Worth the $8...believe me...I've been doing this for a while.
