    Default 3GS Problems, Please help

Before I state my problem, let me tell you I am not the most computer literate person and I hope that if there is a solution that exists for my issue, it can be explained in simple terms/step-by-step instructions.

I have a 3GS with the 3.1.2 OS. It was jailbroken using blackra1n. Since the jailbreak is tethered, every time my phone turned off/shut down/crashed I always used to be able to reset it with my computer. However, last time it shut down I could no longer restart it with blackra1n as it gets stuck on the screen with Geohot's face (stays on the screen with his face for about 10 minutes, then resets and goes back into the screen with the "connect to iTunes" logo)

. Before coming here asking for help on such a common issue, I Googled this issue extensively, and have tried some of the solutions but nothing works.

-I have tried running blackra1n about 20 or so times, just to make sure it definitely doesn't work.
-Although I have a few important pieces of information on my phone, I thought heck let me try a restore and maybe I could live without them. I tried to restore to both 3.1.3 and 3.1.2, and tried both OS's while in Recovery and DFU modes. ITunes keeps giving me the same error and not allowing me to even restore (I forgot what it is, but if can help find the solution I will try and replicate it).
-When I jailbroke with blackra1n for the first time, I clicked the "make my life easy" option. While reading up on the issue on Google I could understand this does something important with the SHSH or something of that sort, however I do not know what that means or how it could help me.

Is it possible to get my phone back at all? I'd love to have all the information that is on it back too, but if that's not possible I'd at least like the phone to work. Right now it's just a brick Can anyone help? I don't care if I have to upgrade to OS 4.0 (although I wouldn't mind staying at 3.0, I have no use for any of OS 4.0's features), but I just desperately need a working phone.

    Thank you,
    Matt

    Download and run tinyumbrella.
Click on Save SHSH. Report back what it has saved or can find.

+1. Your solutions depend upon which SHSH blob versions are saved.

Read a tutorial on upgrading to 4.3.1 and JB with redsn0w. I did mine yesterday with help from the guys here. I have a 3GS with 4.3.1 JB. IT runs a lot nicer than the 3.1.3 I had. Couple things if you decide to use redsn0w. One, run it in compatibility mode if you have windows 7 (xp sp2). Also I needed to use google chrome in order to download the Ipswich file.

Dont start the TSS server at this point. Right now you only need to save shsh. Running the server may be needed later.... But for now, just save the shsh. When it runs in will tell you what versions you Have on file and are able to use to restore to. This is useful to move in and out of versions so that you don't always have to step all the up to the latest apple is offering. Sometimes you may only get the latest version and sometimes you will get versions in between your current version and the newest version.

That message is what I see immediately upon running the program. Is there any way to run it without starting the TTS, whatever that means?

Bump 140 views and nobody has any ideas? I really hope my phone isn't a useless brick forever.

Are you running it as administrator? Right click on the exe and select to run as administrator.

Click save SHSHs and display the complete log. It looks as If it didn't finish loading before you posted the log.

This is exactly what TinyUmbrella looks like after right click->Run as Administrator.

While doing this, my iPhone was connected via USB and had the Connect to iTunes screen.

OK, something is amiss with your account or the file.

    1. Are you running TU as administrator?
    2. The file's permissions are incorrectly set.
    Right click, properties, Security.

My host file (Win7) owned by SYSTEM, and permissions set as follows: everything set for SYSTEM and Administrators, and for Users: Read & execute and read

That's a normal popup. I always get it. I just click ok, click Save SHSHs, then it's all good.

Go ahead and click ok and click Save SHSHs and see what the log says

Oops ignore what I just said. Missed the part that said your host file is not writable. I get the can't start tss server part not the other tho. Sorry
