Red face iPhone 4 - Baseband & Jailbreak Query

    Evenin' all.

Just purchased an iPhone 4 today and was looking to have it jailbroken within minutes but i've not gotten far after quite a few hours

    What i've got:

    iPhone 4
    FW: 4.2.1
    Baseband: 03.10.01-ICE_2_8

The phone is second hand but was purchased directly from the Apple Store so it is unlocked to all networks. Am i right in thinking this excludes me from any jailbreaking Baseband restrictions etc?

I used jailbreakme on the 3GS before, which was all very easy but i'll talk through what i was trying to do today:

    - Went to redsn0w site
    - They point me to TinyUmbrella as i need to save SHSH and run TSS Server
    - TU log states i don't have SHSH (is this because the phone is factory reset fresh and no Cydia on it?)
    - Looking to update to 4.3.1 i had downloaded this FW from felixbruns.de
    - Opened iTunes, shift-clk and pointed to the 4.3.1 .ipsw but presenting an error, which TU has no reply for.
    - Reset phone again and tried 4.3.1 shift-click without TU activated but giving different error codes.

    Phew!

I know that i've probably got my wires crossed there doing stuff not required but could someone please help me out and tell me where i'm going wrong? I had a look at i.Annie's post which says go for 4.2.1's Greenpoison - should i forget 4.3.1 and stick to this?

    Thanks in advance folks.

Ya, i would say stick to 4.2.1 for now and just use greenpoison rc6.1 on it.

Thanks x98car, i'll get on to that just now but i do have a couple fo extra queries...

Is the baseband irrelevant because the phone was purchased from Apple ie not locked to a network?
Do i still need to use TinyUmbrella to go with this jb?

If it is factory unlocked from Apple then your baseband does not matter correct (they dont sell them unlocked in the US though). All you need tiny umbrella for right now is to save any available SHSH you may have.

    Right, still at this unfortunately.

Tried a factory reset so the phone is 'clean'. Grrenpoison keeps saying that the jailbreak has failed despite following the DFU steps shown.

Went to TU to try and save SHSH but it says there's nothing there.

Tried to update to 4.3.1 and then tried to update to latest FW as i was getting frustrated... but iTunes gives a message of 'network connection timed out' for both.

Really not sure what to do from here. Cane anyone help?

Try greenpoison again, when you enter DFU keep holding the home button, even after you click jailbreak. Dont let go until you see scrolling text on your iPhone screen.

Gave this a try but still saying jailbreak failed.

iTunes keeps popping up after i hit jailbreak and stating the phone is in recovery mode - could this be conflicting with it?

Might be. Close iTunes and close the ituneshelper under processes in task manager
