Brand new iphone? Faulty
Ok, my poor dad got a ip4 and we could not upgrade it to 4.3.1 tried everything got error 1013. Took it back said it was faulty which i was pretty sure it wasnt. Now got a replacement phone, brand new and the same thimg is happenning. Cant upgradr to 4.2.1 cus it gets stuck on 1013 and then stuck in recovery mode. So im out of options and my poor dads loosing hope? Any ideas? Gs.apple.com is definitly the only server in the hosts file.
Thanks

Take it back to Apple, and have them do the upgrade and clear the error would work, 99% confident.

I know it's a b1tch to have to back to Apple, just have them deal with it and update you phone while you sit there at the Genius bar, even if they give you a new phone, take charge.

Wow, that so sux.
Have you Searched the forum or Googled the iTunes error your getting and see what other have experienced and perhaps found a fix?
Good luck, hope you report back with good news so I may pass it along to other members.

I had the same problem. Then I went to remove the host file and decided to look at the other files and found another gs.apple.com in another file just under where I removed the first apple host. Try looking around and find more host files. After deleting them all I was able to update.

Yes I would say repair your installation of iTunes. It can not be the same problem with 2 phones in a row, so something is wrong with iTunes.
Good luck

I would definitely do a complete uninstall and reinstall if iTunes. I had a similar problem lately. If you can ask a friend to use their computer to do the update. If you have tinyumbrella look at the settings and uncheck the change host on exit box. Good luck. If you use a different computer without jailbreak software I am confident your problem will be solved.

I think you still need to uninstall itunes on your comp and then reinstall a fresh copy, or repair itunes you have, or the problem will occur again when you update again using your comp.
