Upgrading 3GS from 3.1.3 to 4.x.x
Hi,
I have 3GS Factory Unlocked on FW: 3.1.3 & Modem Firmware 05.12.01
Missed saving me blobs for 3.1.3 & ever since have been wary to updating to any 4.x.x reading all the issues floating around with every update.
But now wana to update my device to iOS 4.
Used TinyUmbrella-4.30.05 and could only save blobs for 4.1 & 4.3.1
Pls advice which FW version of iOS4 should I update to keeping it in Factory Unlocked state.
Also, what all should I take care before going in for the update?

If it is factory unlocked, you dont need to worry about an unlock.
Just download the new version of rednow from here Dev-Team Blog, upgrade your iphone to 4.3.1 and JB with redsnow
if you need to save anything use aptbackup or pkgbackup (from cydia).
Good luck!

Thanks M3th0s for your reply. Is 4.3.1 working fine with 3GS?

After a lot of review reading, 4.1 looks to be safe bet for 3GS. Correct me if I am wrong?
How can I JB the device? Should I be doing that before upgrading to any 4.x.x? My phone is of new bootrom.
Pls assist.

i would go to 4.3.1 too...
see here for guide iClarified - Jailbreak Wizard for iPhone, iPad, iPod, AppleTV
There is no point in going to 4.1 and if you did have any issues you could go back to 4.1 as you have shsh for that. But you will not have an issue with 4.3.1
And no jailbreak will effect your factory unlock

Dude, relax. None of this bootrom stuff matters for you, since you are factory unlocked. Your steps are very simple:
1. Update through iTunes. Activate, sync, etc.
2. Jailbreak with latest redsn0w.
3. Enjoy.Quaerite et invenietis.

On using TinyUmbrella:
1) It saved the following to the folder;
a) Folder - .cache
b) Folder - .known_devices
c) .shsh File - 3423727262990-iphone2,1-4.1
d) .shsh File - 3423727262990-iphone2,1-4.3.1
Now are these folders are of any relevance? Say, I re-save my shsh for 4.3.2 or with coming of any other iOS.
Can I delete these & keep the new ones?
2) Under Advanced should I uncheck 'Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit'?
In case, I don't JB my device or for that matter need to change any other settings?
Finally Updated my device to iOS 4.1. Thanks Guys.
As of now looks to be fine on the new OS.
Have not JailBroken it, will try it for a couple of days before going in for 4.3.1.
Any way we can stop multiple applications?Last edited by ParryD; 04-16-2011 at 02:12 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

To stop multitasking, Search Cydia by typing: Disable
A list will give you results for 'disable'
One of those results will be for Disabling Multitasking
1. Yes you can delete the previous SHSH files from TU but it's better if you just keep them. It shouldn't take much memory so there's no reason to get rid if them.
2. You r correct about unchecking the Host file if you wanna upgrade like normal w/ iTunes. You still might have to use TU to kick ur phone out of Recovery Mode, though.
