    Default Dangit, I'm stumped

Hookin up a friend of mine.

3g Iphone on 4.1.2 Using redsn0w to break it.
Every version I've tried, from rc8 on up seems to work, loads the ramdisc and all, finishes, but the damn phone refuses to reboot on its own.. I let it sit still connected to the PC.. It eventually powers down, and hitting the power button boots it, but no break or cydia.. If I disconnect it from The PC, same thing.. Powers down.. hit the power button, boots, no break n no cydia...

    WTH am I missing here??????

In redsn0w, did you check the box 'Install Cydia' ?

Check the zip for a readme. I remember seeing one. I did however just recentLy jb a 3G 4.2.1 using snowbreeze. My advice back it up, restore it clean then greenposi0n or custom with snowbreeze. Both those tools were the untethered for 4.2.1.

Well then im completely fuxored.. LOL No hacktivation.. Phone was already activated. Now, I DON'T have a sim installed.. Will that matter or not? I don't think it would.. Ive actually tried it both ways.. With my sim from my iphone n not.. Didn't seem to matter..

With GP rc6, it wont go into DFU mode either.. With redsnow, no problem..
I'm usually good with this stuff, but this ones got me REALLY confused.. LOL

Could be, it depends upon your account privileges. XP doesn't need the 'Run As Administrator' crap imposed by Vista/Win7 if you're already set up as Administrator.

    Be more descriptive .......
At the very start, DFU mode is a blank screen. Once it gets started the screen changes. A few more details please.

k, Once it enters DFU mode using redsnow, it'll load the ramdisc and kernal.. But the phone never reboots on its own once it finishes getting loaded..

Yes to the dead black screen, then it lights up, but still a blank screen.. Once it's done getting loaded, it stays on that lit blank screen.. After about 5-10 mins, it just shuts down.. I have to turn it back on to bring it back up.. When i do no cydia, and i assume, no jailbrake..

What do you know about the ipsw? Maybe it's corrupted in some way. Try a new one. One more thing, once in a blue moon a problem with a USB port or cable crops up. Try changing those too

Hmmm.. Thought of that, but never really considered it.. Will do.. Ill try again tomorrow.. Ill let ya know whats what when i get there..

    Thanks!!

Ok. Tried fware downed from here. Same thing. Loads fine best I can tell but the break doesn't take.

May b a dumb question, but does the fware need to have the phones shsh signature to work considering I'm breaking it??

Jailbreaking has nothing to do with SHSH needs ... it's about the phone and iOS version.

Not required for any 2G/3G loading any iOS 3.1.3 and below.
Required for any iOS 4.0 version and above with all iDevices
Required for all 3GS, iP4, & iPad iDevices loading any iOS version.

Are you loading 3.1.2/3 on a 3G? SHSH not required. If 4.0 and above, required.

Then that must be whats happening.. I didn't update the phone with 4.2.1. It was already done. So me trying to go over the top w/ redsn0w using an alternate download of same thing but no shsh for it must be causing this..

I have the shsh for whats in the phone now. Any way to attach it to the downloaded one i have here ?? Hope that made sense..

    Thanks again mes.. Appreciated

^If you have the 4.2.1 SHSH (remember each version is different and different for every phone), then so does Cydia -AND- TinyUmbrella can use it!

Verify it! Run TinyUmbrella, download all SHSH blobs, Verify 4.2.1 is listed. If it's there, you're good to go (but you must have the TU SHSH server running before you do almost anything.

Yeah.. I did that last night.. I have it in Tiny.... Didn't need to have the server running though to verify..

So I'm assuming I was right then. Me trying to load a non signed kernal, even though broke, wasn't going to work.. Knew it was something stupid.. LOL

    K.. Whats next??
