Jailbreak question please help

Ok i have a iPhone 3gs that I just got...it's currently jailbroke and unlocked...firmware 3.1.2...I have looked around And am not 100% sure of what to do but I want to upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1 and jailbreak it...what exactly do i have to do? I've jailbroke older firmware using blackrain in the past

Create custom firm ware with one of the two apps, snowbreeze 2.1.1 for PC and pwnage tool for Mac to preserve your base band(bb) to unlock with ultrasnow 1.2 (old version ) The key is to preserve your bb to unlock. Open Cydia on the very first page it should list of all your SHSH that are available to you, make sure have 4.1 or 4.2.1 SHSH saved, otherwise there is no need to go further.

Ok thanks...i read something About not being able to downgrade if the iPhone is already unlocked...is that the case with my phone?

And also will this be a untethered jailbreak?

Honestly on the 3g iphone id stay 3.XX. 4.xx makes the 3g almost unbareable to use with the lag and stuff

+1 3g is almost unusable on 4.x and above but if you want to go on 4.x 4.2.1 is the best

well alot of the apps won't let me dl them they say they need 4.0 and all that

@ datboibubba, i simply ask u to check cydia and see if u have 4.1 or 4.2.1 shsh saved otherwise we can't help you!!!

At the top of the cydia it does say shah and had 4.0 and all that

Does it have anything else other than 4.0? If that's all is listed then you can restore to 4.0 or you can restore to 4.3.1. With 4.3.1 you would need to create custom firm ware to preserve your bb and unlock with ultrasnow 1.2. With 4.0 you can restore with TU and jb with limerain or greenposion. You can google jailbreak 4.0 and find which one for sure and it will also give you instructions as how it's done. With 4.0 will update your bb also but it's jailbreakable. If you happen to run across 4.1, do not restore to that because bb is nit unlockable as of now!!
