Why hasn't this happened to anyone else...?
I had this iPhone untethered on 4.2.1 until my friend was stupid enough to update it to 4.3.1 and now we seem to be stuck so badly I really can't see a way out...I've been searching but can't find anyone who is or has been in the same situation!
It was unlocked with ultrasn0w and had the iPad baseband. On updating, it gave the 1015 error and either switched on showing the recovery mode screen or the swirling circle of death. I've tried custom firmwares with redsn0w and sn0wbreeze and recently a fixrecovery file someone was hosting here to people in near enough the same situation but its done nothing. I'm now desperate just to be able to switch the phone onto the main screen.
I've tried so many things but with no luck. The only thing I can think of left to try is using winscp or iPhonebrowser to access the iPhones files but I can't even do that because I need to get it switched on to see its IP!
Fix recovery won't even work on my tinyumbrella for some reason...it says it has stopped working...Please help!

I'm having similar problem
Hi,
go to this thread Upgrading iPhone 4 to 4.3.1 issues... 'bricked'.
Is that similar to what you are experiencing?

are you trying with 4.3.1 firmware or 4.2.1 firmware?
since you had the ipad baseband, it wouldn't have updated properly with itunes anyways, so it sounds like it might be stuck in some limbo land.
Are you able to get it to DFU mode?

I am definitlystuck on Limbo land, I'm beginning to admit I'm bricked. I've tried both firmwares but appear more successful with 4.3.1 because it appears to successfully restore and itunes picks it up to set up as a new iphone...except when it boots it shows the swirling circle of death! I can get it to DFU mode easy.

Issue fixed?
Hi,
Have you found a fix yet? I know that there are more than just me and you with this issue, their iPhones being bricked after the 4.3.1 update, so I'm assuming apple should HAVE to do something about it. Im going to give them a ring today, and I'll let you know what they say.

Please do! it wil be very interesting...
Tell me abit more about your iphone and the situation your in and how you got in it...I'm so glad someone else is with me!
I thought I was getting somewhere there - I got 'iPhoneBrowser' and was able to access the iphones files, but I haven't achieved anything. Its the fact that we have two problems in one - The recovery loop AND the SWOD...people online are able to fix these individually but nobody seems to have experienced a SWOD on restore...FRUSTRATING!
Again I seem to be able to restore successfully... except it doesn't boot, just shows the SWOD...Last edited by cqweaky; 04-11-2011 at 02:47 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Hi,
Yesterday I spoke to an apple rep, he was VERY helpful, but unfortunately no help in over-the-phone resolving. It was funny though 'cause I had already done all the troubleshooting steps he offered prior to the call, so the call ended quite quick. He did however book me into an Apple store.
So today I went to the apple store, and they managed to force the software onto the phone.
The guy reckons my computer wasn't providing enough power to the phone, which quite frankly couldn't be possible for all 5 computers and 3 USB cords I tried.
As with the corrupted files being downloaded, apparently my internet is sh!t, even though the rep I spoke to on the phone thinks otherwise -.-
So in other words, the person at the apple store helped with nothing but restoring my phone and criticising my computers and internet.
I suggest you find your way to your closest apple store, but first attempt to restore it a few times more so that any 'traces' of jailbreak are removed
.
Hope all goes well.
EDIT:
I got into my situation when trying to update my iPhone 4 from 4.3 to 4.3.1. The update failed, and from there on so did my phone. It wasn't jailbroken or anything so I am guessing the update I was given through the download had a bug or something happened when downloading and it just fuc#ed my phone.
Thats my story...
Also, the rep mentioned something on the phone, he said 'I know we offer these troubleshooting steps individually, but sometimes trying two or more together makes it work'. So I'd suggest maybe DFU mixed with a nice sexy clean update...Last edited by dre_bro11; 04-11-2011 at 10:43 PM.

Brilliant news! you're fixed! just me now...
I'm actually quite scared at the concept of walking into apple with a phone I managed to eff up through jailbreaking and unlocking against there will...didn't they ask you how you got into that situation and you got away without them knowing you jailbroke?! Also, how do you get booked into an apple store? how long did the proccess take?
THANKS!

Hi,
I called apple using the phone number I was given in the iPhone Support page on their website, The guy went through troubleshooting over the phone, then when they didn't work he booked me in.
They did ask me if it was jailbroken, but I said no, and in the apple store, all they did was plug it in, restore it and I was out. The guy did'nt even stay at the table wile it was restoring so I don't think you should have an issue. It only took about 10 mins once someone attended to me.
Also, if you have a case or something, make sure you keep it on your phone, make it look like you protect it :P and bring your sim. (Are you using a legit carrier? If not, don't bring sim, and just say you didn't know you had to bring it. Not like they can take your phone until they have your sim card or anything.)
