3G Jailbreak and unlock help

Right i am looking for a bit of advise from somebody that knows more about 3G than i do.

I have a friends phone and i think its a 3G but not sure how to tell.

Its a MB489B which i think is a 3G old bootroom ?

It's running on 4.2.1 with 05.15.04 and wants to Jailbreak and unlock.

So what is the best option and can somebody confirm it is a 3G

I was going to restore it to 3.1.2 and jailbreak with Jailbreakme.com and run Ultrasn0w for the unlock.

Or does somebody have a better option, obviously there are no shsh saved as it has never been jailbroken before.

Well it looks like there is no Unlock yet without going to 06.15.00 so guess he is stuck

On the back of the phone. Where is says "iphone" and the gig is the letters shiny or not?
If they are shiny then its a 3gs
If not there dull its a 3g

It's a 3G

But like i said in the edit there is no unlock for 05.15.04 yet so he is stuck without going to 06.15.00 unless you know different.

Check to see what bootloader it has with f0recast or tiny umbrella.

Why ? is there a chance that it could be downgraded with Fuzzy ?

5.8 is the magic one. Looks like iPad baseband is the only way to unlock for that one

If it was mine i would go to iPad .... But its full of risks and i cant be bothered for somebody else.... LOL

If it were me I'd sell it and upgrade to an unlockable 3GS

I would be a bit more keen if it was mine

but you know what its like.... when you try do favors for friends.... Something is DEFO going to go wrong LOL... Then you have to spend hours sorting it out
