Default how to shutdown or reboot from command line

i don't use my iphone much for things other than phone calls, but i did want ssh access to it, so i jailbroke it a while ago. its a 3g and i think it has the latest OS 3.x on it (3.1.3 maybe? not sure).

i wanted to install a package from cydia. i hadn't run cydia in a while, so it had some packages to upgrade, and i chose 'complete upgrade' or whatever, but something went wrong and cydia crashed. then it kept crashing when i tried to restart cydia. i was finally able to get it working by turning off network access, then cydia was able to let me delete some incomplete downloads or something, and i was able to successfully perform the upgrades, and then was able to install the package i wanted.

after installation, it said it needed to restart springboard, so i let it, but now it is just stuck there with the swirly. i tried to hold down the power button, but i get no option to shutdown.

however, i can still ssh into the phone. so i was hoping i could just figure out a way to shut down the phone from the command line and let it reboot and all would be well again.

edit: ha, found it. it's simply "halt" and "reboot" (in /sbin). iphone started up fine, btw.
