Greenpoison 4.2.1 to redsnow 4.3.1

I'm on gp 4.2.1 right now. Do I just update firmware to newest and jailbreak with redsnow. Or do I still need the ipsw file while jailbreaking with redsnow. I read every thread but still kinda confused. Just doin my research before updating. Thanx for any help

I would have a "reasonable" guess that because your using two different jailbrake methods, you will need to update and then jailbrake with redsn0w.

That would be my logical thinking, but not 100% sure

For sure. But what I'm asking is if I need the ipsw restore file? I saw video on YouTube where the guy said u need that file and of course redsnow jailbreak file.

If you're going to 4.3.1 then simply hitting upgrade will do in iTunes. But you will need a 4.3.1 stock (not custom) ipsw to use with redsn0w to jb.

Stock just means it's official Apple fw not a custom made one like one made through a jailbreak tool such as snowbreeze or pwnagetool. You can download one from felixbruns.de

Lol all good. Sorry for being a noob that loves being jailbroken. Thanx Annie for the info. So update to 4.3.1 and then download the redsnow and then the ipsw file from that site u gave me?

I've heard bad things about 4.3.1 though, but if you really want to upgrade it should be fine. Just thought I'd warn you.

Yea I think I'm gonna stay with my 4.2.1 anyways. Kinda like my greenpoison bootlogos lol thanx Annie. U always are helpful

Just to add my experience with this, as I did it myself last night. I had my 3Gs 4.2.1 jailbroken with greenpoison. After updating to 4.3.1 in iTunes and then jailbreaking with redsnow, my Cydia wouldn't open, so I ended up restoring my iPhone (again), setting up as new, and then jailbreaking it with redsnow. Might not be completely necessary, but it got the job done with no issues, save for having to set everything up again.

Hi, I'm using GP 4.2.1, and I wanted to update to 4.3.1 with redsn0w jailbreak.
I'm facing this prob, when I wanna restore to 4.3.1, it pop out error 3194. Why?

Because you either don't have SHSHs for 4.3.1 or you're not utilizing them.

If you're going to 4.3.1 you might as well just go to 4.3.2.

I had a jailbroken iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 (greenposion). I tried to restore to 4.3.2 and I kept getting an error and the iPhone got stuck in the recovery mode, I tried everything, tinyumbrella to exit recovery mode, try to install 4.2.1 again and nothing. Finally I try to restore it on a new computer and It worked. I'm so happy!

Yeah my shsh is 4.3.2, anyway everything is fine now, i updated to 4.3.2 already..
