Making sure hw to upgrade to 4.2.1

hi, im on 4.1 with my 3gs i would like to upgrade to 4.2.1. How do i do that safely without screwin it up to have to update to 4.3.1? i figured i would just use the firmware 4.2.1 i have and restore through itunes? but im not sure please let me know!! Thanks!

no its been upgraded to 4.2.1 cause i dont think i can unlock on the baseband? unless i can just update the baseband through redsnow with the ipad baseband?

hasnt been* and unlock on the 41 baseband*

Ya, you can always just update the baseband to the iPad one if you need to unlock and dont need GPS.

and just jailbreak with limerain? i did try to jb with limerain and it would to the process and tell me to turn back on and it never had limerain there?

No, you dont need limera1n. Redsnow 0.9.6rc8 can jailbreak and update your baseband for you. Are you on 4.1 or 4.2.1 right now?

im on 4.1. so i can just use redsnow to update and jb it? just dl the firmware?

Yup, just use redsnow 0.9.6rc8, point it to a regular 4.1 firmware. Then choose to install cydia and update your baseband.
