Have you tried another USB port or another computer to see if iTunes will recognize your device?

It might be beneficial to try another computer, otherwise you have no choice but to never use iTunes, or restore by setting into recovery mode. iTunes at this point won't recognize your device unless it is in recovery mode for a restore. So my best suggestion is to (since you don't have another computer) uninstall iTunes then reinstall it. Be sure when uninstalling iTunes to completely remove it.

I wasn't aware you already attempted an uninstall/reinstall.
If you can't find another computer to try, or if another computer won't recognize it, it's your phone.
If your phone is the problem, you will likely have to restore. Now im assuming if the guy you took it to got it to 4.1, you must have SHSHs saved for it.
Are you absolutely sure your device is on 4.1 at the moment? Verify this, then you can go download TinyUmbrella and click "Save SHSHs" to see any SHSHs you have saved.
If you do have 4.1 or 4.2.1 saved, you can do a restore and rejb. I can help you with that as soon as you verify if you have SHSHs.
Get TinyUmbrella on your comp at thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com

Sorry been busy today. Anyway, we have concluded the issue is your computer then correct?
My question now is, how are you doing the uninstallation?

Ok, well I can't tell if you're doing anything wrong if you don't tell me how you're doing it

your absolutely right
ok i was uninstalling through the uninstall programs on programs load, unload. but let me ask you do apple have a driver on their cable? because i installed a package called paretologic pc health advisor, ran it through and did some registery, drivers and other fixes including .dll fixes (whatever they are- but i think its is these that are significant), then changed cable and it worked? my phone did connect. then went home and used the old cable i was previously using and again back to square one no recogonition of my phone...then used the other cable and still not recognising...so now running that pc health program again to see what happens ,, it brings up old driver and usb errors. so that makes me think is their a driver or .dll problem on my pc....
any advice and how to help again really needed...this so annoying

Yeah sorry I have no idea at this point. I would have uninstalled it the same way you did so I'm not sure what's wrong.
I can only say your computer is the issue and that is not my expertise. I can fix your phone but I can't fix your computer to work with your phone :/
So basically restore your computer or find out why your computer isn't working when other computers are fine.
