Angry A Real Mess on iPhone 4,,,HELP

Well this should be a first, I don't even know how to describe it. I have an iPhone 4 4.0.1 with 16 gig, unlocked with "Jailbreakme.com" and unlocked to TMobile. Everything was fine until yesterday, I now have now "Phone", when I push the "Phone" button, it goes back to the home screen. I also have no contacts and can't sync to get them back. I have no idea what to do and can't even find anything similar to it on the computer to help me out. I can go to to "Messages" and at the top push "Call" and the call goes through even though there is no name of the person, at least I can call some of my contacts. Everything else works on the phone so I hope someone can help me I hate to have a $500 paperweight....Wayne

You might need to restore. If you have SHSHs saved you can take it to a better firmware like 4.1 or 4.2.1. If you don't have SHSHs saved, you'd have to restore to 4.3.1 (maybe 4.3 but I don't know if that's being signed still).

You will end up having a tethered jb on 4.3. No jb for 4.3.1 at this time that I know of.

To check for SHSHs, download TinyUmbrella from thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com onto your computer and click "Save SHSHs" with your device plugged in. See what the log says.

These are the SHSH's I have on Tiny Umbrella, but if I choose something other than 4.0.1 do I have a jailbreak for that? I am kind of new to all this so excuse my silly questions. Thank You so much, I am worried, Wayne

Sorry i forgot to post from Tiny Umbrella

Sorry I didn't catch what SHSHs you have.

It's beneficial if you have SHSHs for 4.2.1 or 4.1 to restore to that. You would be using a custom firmware to maintain your baseband to unlock as well as jailbreaking. A custom firmware used to restore technically is jailbreaking your phone so no additional steps need to be taken to jailbreak 4.2.1 or 4.1 if you have SHSHs and restore to a custom fw that you may create with Sn0wbreeze.

Ok it looks like you have SHSHs saved.

So you want to get Sn0wbreeze from iH8sn0w.com

Also go download a stock 4.2.1 ipsw (get it at the downloads section here on MMi)

Download as well redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 (google or dev team's blog has it)

Then when that's all downloaded, let me know and I can walk you through the process.

You want to back everything up before we begin though. Do you know how?

So, it is possible to re-jailbreak an iphone? I used "Jailbreakme.com" to jailbreak the phone so it won't be a problem to jailbreak it with Sn0breeze? I can't thank you enough, it is scary to try to fix the phone yourself, and this site is always amazing. Wayne

You would have to restore to a custom firmware. Restoring to a custom firmware technically already jailbreaks your phone again so no extra steps for you to take after restoring.

You would be creating your custom firmware to restore to.

First of all, if you don't have any contacts, it could be you have synced your iphone with another computers which will wipe out your contacts. Just a possiblity.
If you want a restore , with your 4.2.1 shsh blob , it is easy to fix.
Like Annie said, go ahead and create a custom firmware of 4.2.1
Make sure you have itunes 10.
Start your Tss Server with the respective 4.2.1 shsh blob highlighted
Run Redsno0w 0.9.6RC8, browse to stock 4.2.1 fw and just check DFU mode only.
Once Iphone DFU mode is achieved,
Run Itunes : shift + Restore to Custom fw of 4.2.1 created by Snowbreeze 2.2.1 or Pwnage tools 4.2 (Already placed on your desktop )
Your baseband is already preserved this way, setup as new iphone and synced back whatever from itunes like contacts, photos and so forth.

I have everything you mentioned downloaded and the iphone is backed up on iTunes, is that what you meant? I cannot thank you enough for this....Wayne,,,I am getting excited about having my phone fixed it has been this way since yesterday...Wayne

I'm not sure what this is...."Start your Tss Server with the respective 4.2.1 shsh blob highlighted", is that in Tiny Umbrella? I told you I am so new to this stuff...Wayne

I am on Macintosh and the Sn0wbreeze was an exe. file, so I think I have to get Pwnage file instead, right? Thanks again...Wow so complicated,,,,Wayne

Yes, tss server is from tiny umbrella , keep it running throughout and stoped it once iphone is restored successfully.

Oh, you are on Mac, you can use Pwnage tools 4.2, once created the Custom fw of 4.2.1, use PT to put your iphone into DFU mode, just follow the intructions, once your iphone is in DFU mode ( Screen is black ) and then run itunes : shift + restore to CFW of 4.2.1 on your desktop.

Forget about Snowbreeze, it is for PC

you must use either redsn0w or Pwnage tools to put your iPhone into dfu mode otherwise it will say fw incompatible

Run Pwnage tools again and click the dfu mode to perform ur iPhone into dfu mode b4 restoring to custom fw of 4.2.1.

With the screen with the the connect to iTunes how do you get DFU mode? I am trying but it is not working.

I am not having any luck with Pwnage and I need some serious help, when I try to install the Custom IPSW file it says it can't WHat in the world do I do now?

I ran Pwnage tool in DFU mode and I still cannot get the custom firmware to load on my phone on iTunes. What could be the problem? I am lost without my phone

THis is what message i get when I try to install the new custom IPSW file for 4.2.1 The Phone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible.

Use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and a stock 4.2.1 fw to set your phone into pwned dfu mode. Then attempt the opt+restore to your custom firmware you made.

Do a hard reset : hold both buttons until it reboots . Your iPhone is still currently at your previous firmware.

Try using fix recovery from TU to see if you can kick it out.

One more trick to get back to homscreen, now that you are in recovery mode.
download stock 4.0 fw , shift + restore to 4.0 , error 3194 will pop up and your iPhone will boot back to homescreen

Do you have an official carrier's SIM card? If so put it in the phone and open iTunes to activate your phone.

If you don't have a SIM you'll have to hacktivate it with a jb tool.

I don't have an actual official SIM card, I am on TMobile unlocked and don't know about a jb tool to hactivate it with......What is that? I know I am really new to all of this....Wayne

    Do you mean like Pwnage?

If my phone was on 4.0.1 what IPSW should I use to restore it? I am really getting excited after 3 days of no iphone....Wayne
