How to wipe clean the 3GS & how to change size of the IOS partition?

Hy everybody,

I'd like to ask some guide about erasing the whole content of the iPhone 3GS, and how could I make the IOS partition a bit bigger?

I'm thinking here on a greenpois0n rc6.1 JB on 4.2.1 (till now I used redsnow 0.9.6rc8, but over time the phone started lagging, and now freezing), but I want to make sure that I restore the stock 4.2.1 to a clean, "formatted" iphone.
And since I've had several times cydia-messages about running out of space on the IOS partition, I'd like to change the size. Is it even possible with greenpois0n?

Last thing: I'm not even sure if it's the best way to go. Any suggestions about gp/redsn0w choice is much appreciated!
