Preserve your bb is always a good idea! Suppose you want purchase the i5 when it comes out in July, you have a better chance to sell the unlock than locked phone and demand more money!!

What do I do to preserve my baseband? So if I preserve my baseband then I can unlock my iphone and use it with any of the carrier?

Pwnagetool is for Mac to jailbreak 4.3.1 and preserve old bb to unlock with ultrasnow, however you need to wait for new ultrasnow, due to the old ultrAsnow does not support iOS 4.3.1

As you mentioned about Pwnagetool, if I use this one then I can preserve my baseband and then when the new ultrasnow is available then I can unlock my iPhone 4.3.1 ?
Is that right?

So instead of Redsnow, I should use Pwnagetool in Mac to jailbreak and to preserve the baseband to be able to unlock later with ultrasnow?

Yes that is correct, use snowbreeze If you're on PC. Remember do not run ultrasnow to unlock yet, the old ultrasnow does not support 4.3.1 you have to wait for the new ultrasnow

I guess one more question before I jailbreak:
I didn't have any idea about baseband until I was on iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak.
Now I read so many articles and watched so many videos and with your expert guidance, I came to know about baseband stuffs.
So my question is did my baseband increase (changed) after I upgraded to iOS 4.3.1 ? I don't know what was my baseband when I was on iOS 4.2.1 but now on iOS 4.3.1, my baseband is 04.10.01

So in this case Pwnagetool 4.3 does help to preserve my baseband? Because if I would be preserving baseband then it will be for 4.3.1 and not for 4.2.1. So the new ultrasnow would help me unlock this 04.10.01 baseband?

Not a problem with the questions, that how we learn.....
Each time you "update thru itune you update your bb as well, if you bb is now on 04.10.XX it's not unlockable as of now, maybe in the future. One more thing once the bb is updated it remains no mater if you downgrade to another iOS for example to 4.2.1, you may have iOS 4.2.1 but your bb is the same as before you downgrade. That's why you do not update unless there is jb and unlock for that new fw/iOS

Got it ! So when I use pwnagetool and preserve my bb, so how does it work? How does that perserve my bb and how can i still be on the same bb if i upgrade my iOS? pretty confusing.

When you use pwenage to jb you must download a stock 4.3.1 fw for pwnagetool to create the custom firmware with it. There for it's not installing the stock fw, at the same preserve your bb. In your case you already have an unlockable bb

So u need to decide will they come out unlock for 04.10.XX or bb for 4.3.1 . You decide. Then you can pick which jb app to use!! Redsnow will update bb where as pwnagetool will keep old bb. It just depends on which unlock comes out first for 04.10.XX or the new bb for 4.3.1. Is a wild guess
