3G Issues
Since everyone on here has been super helpful on my own questions, I'm hoping you can help with a phone that I'm trying to help fix.
My sister was given a 3G from her friend and needed it jailbroken so it could work on T-Mobile. So at the time, I went ahead and did it and broke it with blackra1n to 3.1 (i think it was blackra1n at least, was a while back)
Now she's having a lot of problems with it. It's very, very slow. I've seen the speed differences between 3G-3GS-and 4, but this is beyond that. It takes about 30 seconds for button presses to register and sometimes she can't answer calls at all thanks to that.
The phone also heats up quite a bit. It never prompts for temperature levels on the springboard, but you can feel it's real hot on the back plate.
I'm not sure if maybe it's just overworked trying to run the newer apps on 3.1 and that a fresh JB+unlock on a newer cfw would help. Or maybe you all have a better solution.
And hopefully something I can fix, since a new phone really isn't possble at the moment.
TL;DR: 3G on 3.1 is super, super slow and overheats. Need a fix
Thanks everyone!

There are usually a few things that I check whenever someone brings their phone to me with an overheating problem.
1) Open the phone and make sure that no dust or any other solid/liquid substance has been deposited on the phone's logic board anywhere.
2) Ask when they bought the phone. If it has been a while, it might be time for a new battery. Batteries are usually inexpensive, but can be tricky to put in for the experienced user.
3) Has she been using data-heavy apps? It's quite a possibility that one of the cellular radios is overheating if being used too much especially the GPS.
4) What lead up to this? Was there a recent app download? Was there a possibility of liquid contact/submersion of any type? Etc.
Also, since the phone is unlocked (I'm assuming software-based), download the latest ultrasn0w from Cydia.
If you can get the phone open (It's not too difficult to do, but make sure you watch some youtube videos before doing it first) make sure to check for anything that might be bridging battery connections. Although this will be hard to tell, there still might be something noticeable. If all else fails, try to update the software on the phone while still keeping the baseband so that it will still be unlockable. Check around for tutorials, they are widely available.
Anything else, just post back.

She told me it was pretty slow to begin with, but I'll have to see if there was a particular app that really started it. She doesn't use too many "heavy" apps, just SMS, Safari and Words with Friends.
Anything she really does has to go over WiFi as well, which has a strong connection, and mainly because her T-Mobile doesn't have a 3G plan so thus the 3G doesn't work.
I've installed batteries before in my 3GS so that shouldn't be a big problem to open it up.
I think updating might be the only solution aside from opening it up. I'm just horrible with unlocks since all I ever do myself is jailbreak.
