    Default Custom IPSW Files

    Forgive my ignorance when it comes to knowledge about jailbreaking, but I have a question.

    I have a 3GS / 4.2.1 Firmware, currently jailbroken with redsn0w (not sure which version).

    I am aware that my phone is currently avaliable to be an tethered jailbreak on 4.3 using Sn0wbreeze 2.3b2.

    Ive looked at Sn0wbreeze, allows you to "custom" build ipsw files, where as redsn0w doesn't do that as far as I am aware.

    Just wondering what custom ipsw files are for, and the pro and cons of using custom ipsw firmware.
