I found an iphone 4, its locked, so i have no way of contacting the guy who lost it. And before you ask me to turn in it to the police, the police doesnt deal with these situations in my area, they have bigger fish to fry. Okay so, it has a passcode.. I can't restore it, as the sim card seems to have been removed -_- is there any possibility for me to restore this? since itunes doesnt work, can tinyumbrella do the trick in some way?

Don't want to be blunt but we avoid helping with stolen items. I would suggest taking it to Apple or AT&T and having them look up the IMEI to see which account it is linked to.

+1 take it to AT&T. They will know who it belongs to.

Turn off the iPhone.
Then hold the home button and plug in the USB cable. ( continue to hold )
The iPhone will go into recovery mode.
iTunes will pop up and tell you that you have to restore it, you can just hit the restore button and restore to 4.3 or you can download 4.2.1 and hold shift and restore then jailbreak via greenpois0n
Passcode will not be there after restore

Its not CDMA or whatever, it was a simcard, and at&t isnt up here in canada... its not technically stolen if i FOUND it.. owners irresponsibility? If you found money on the ground, would you keep it? or turn it in to the police...

Well I have had people return cash to me so I tend to do the same as much as I can. I've returned $200 cash that someone dropped and almost left without noticing. Honestly, you're free to do as you feel on your own standards and values. I personally just would do as much as I can to get it to the rightful owner who purchased it with his/her money.

Karma is real. And it is a pain sometimes. Since the phone had no SIM, it was likely stolen.
FYI, even if you restore it, the phone can still be tracked.
Do the right thing.

Does the phone show the iTunes logo and the USB cable?
Aka recovery logo"

Karma aside, anyone care to shed some info on the situation as for restoring it? It had no simcard yet it was locked.. so is there any possible way of restoring it?
iPhone is Disabled, connect to itunes, i put it in recovery mode and it downloads an update and gives me an error, i think its because it needs the simcard..

Man your a n00b get it into recovery mode and restore with iTunes
Google RecBoot 1.1
Find a download
Run RecBoot1.1 Have The IPhone Pluged in and hit enter recovery
And the program will do it for you
Then restore on iTunes.
Lol you don't need a sim card to restore
Try downloading 4.2.1 from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
And restore from it
What error is it giving you btw?

That's why you check with Apple. If it has already been reported stolen/lost then they can block it from iTunes.

if it says disabled then its been blocked completly lost cause

Yes, it's quite nice that they can do that for devices the original owners have misplaced.

Personally I've installed Find My iPhone so I can track my phone if I ever lost it. That's also why keeping the box is important bc you have the IMEI to give to apple to block.
