Default Best Jailbreaking software for iPhone 3GS (4.2.1) and iPhone 4 (4.3)?
I have a couple of phones that I want to Jailbreak. One of them is an iPhone 3GS with 4.2.1 OS and the other is an iPhone 4 with 4.3 OS. I know the 4.3 OS is new, so there may not be anything out.

Anyhow, what's the best software to Jailbreak these phones? If there's already a Jailbreak for 4.3, then should I upgrade or keep the 4.2.1 and Jailbreak that OS?

I asked this same question a while back about an older OS and it seemed most were replying with Jailbreakme. Is this not a good software for 4.2.1 or 4.3?

pwnage tool is the name of the other software?

I did a Google search with my iPhone for Jailbreakme 4.2.1 and click on the first result and it prompts you just like Jailbreakme 2.0 where all you do is slide the bar to start the jailbreak.

Go to jailbreakme.com on any iphone with 4.2.1 and I'm gonna bet it will say that the firmware is too high. It is rumored that comex will be releasing jailbreakme.com 3.0 in the next couple of weeks for 4.3 here's an article JailbreakMe 3.0 To Be Released As Early As Next Weekend |

And iOn1c is also working on an untethered for 4.3 so jailbreakme.com 3.0 might not even be released so that a jailbreak can be saved for future use.

I realize if you go to Jailbreakme.com with an iPhone that has 4.2.1 and it'll say the OS is too high, but I was saying do a Google search with either "Jailbreakme 4.2.1 or Jailbreakme 3.0" and click on the link. Do this with your phone.

I just put a link to an article that has a picture of comex tweeting that jailbreakme3.0 is not ready yet, I wouldn't trust any supposed link.

Yeah...Jailbreakme 2.0 has a jailbreakme.com link and 3.0 has something entirely different. Then as you enter the software, 2.0 has Comex on the screen, 3.0 says Instant Access.

So with that being said, is Redsn0w the next best thing? Which software # is it for 4.2.1?

The supposed one for 4.2.1 is fake. Slide it and it tells you to pay.

No stable or official jb out for 4.3. On 4.2.1 I would recommend Greenpois0n or PwnageTool.

No tethered jb for 4.3 as yet but I used greenp0ison on my 3GS running 4.2.1 and it couldn't have been easier.

There is a tethered jb for 4.3 by way of sn0wbreeze 2.3b1

But it is still in early beta stage.

Yes its very unstable and can be unreliable, but maybe some people would like to try. I personally don't like tethered jailbreaks though.

Tethered jailbreaks are a big pain. I just put it out there for reference. I would just wait until either comex or i0n1c release a stable untethered jb.

I know tethered jb is one of those things where I'm gonna say it's ok! I don't reboot or turn off my phone. Then one day I'm gonna need to for whatever reason and then I'm screwed lol bc I am hardly around my computer. That's just me though haha.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but what's the difference between tethered and untethered? I don't even know what the term means in this case.

Untethered is what most people want. Untethered is when you don't need a computer to get your phone to work without needing to boot tethered from redsn0w.

Tethered, you end up having to hook your phone up to your computer whenever your phone shuts off or reboots and boot tethered to get it up and running again every time it does this.
