I have a 3Gs iphone that was jb with Greenpoison. I wanted to JB with redsn0w so I could unlock it bc the baseband was wrong...I messed it up by restoring factory settings, thinking it would just go back to a formatted and clean 4.2 state. however, it freezes when it boots up. When it was JB with greenpoison, I went to Cydia and saved the SHSH blobs. However, when I boot up TinyUmbrella, it says my device is "-INVALID" and there are no shsh blobs saved.
I've tried activating the server and going into itunes and restoring using shift+click and selecting the 4.2 firmware, however I get error 1604.
I've been at this for a couple days now and I can't figure this out. It seems to be that my only hope would be to just format>upgrade officially to 4.3 just so I can use the phone again and just wait for 4.3 JB and Unlock.
I'd rather not though...anyone know a workaround for this? Would be much appreciated =)
I Think error 1604 is the firmware is installed but iTunes prevents you from booting. Just kick out of recovery and you should be good to GO. Try check theiphonewiki.com and GO to the errors section and see what to dó. if not working try GO to pwned dfu with redsn0w and the shift restore with a custom firmware created with sn0wbreeze. Btw whats ur model?
Ok so..progress...I just said screw it and upgraded to 4.3. I opened TinyUmbrella and noticed that 4.1 SHSH blobs were saved...so I downgraded.
My baseband is 5.16.01 and my version is 4.1. I'm using a 3GS (the newer version or w/e)
So my final question is: what is the best method to JB and unlock? Should I upgrade to 4.2, redsn0w JB with the ipad baseband, and unlock from there? Or can I do it from 4.1? Also...since the 3gs is newer, will this be a tethered jb with redsn0w?
Sorry i dont know about unlock on that bb. But if it is unlockable i would upgrade with a custom firmware to 4.2.1 (it preserves your baseband) and upgrade from there. If it is not unlockable GO to 4.2.1 and iPad and jailbreak with redsn0w.(hope you are aware that you loose your gps forever) then GO greenpois0n on top of the redsn0w. This Will make it untethered.
if i'm at 4.1 how do I get to 4.2.1? itunes says upgrade to 4.3. do i just dl the firmware and select it when upgrading? also, so i need to use tinyumbrella to do this?
You have to update your baseband to the iPad baseband 6.15.00 to unlock. You cannot downgrade the baseband since you updated. If you're ok with breaking the GPS function, then upgrade to the iPad baseband. If you're not ok with breaking the GPS, then you shouldn't do it bc there is no fix for it.
If you'd like to do so, simply download redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 and browse to 4.1 ipsw.
Then select Cydia and iPad baseband upgrade, then continue to follow the on-screen prompts.
When finished, go to Cydia and install ultrasn0w to unlock.
hmm still no service..rebooted a few times and waited. is there anything i can look at in the settings to sorta confirm that it's unlocked? it does say my bb is 6.15.00 and ultrasn0w is installed.
i have two sim cards and two unlocked phones..supposedly. one of the sim cards picks up reception, but when trying to make a call i get an error says "call not allowed from this line..." the sim card that picks up reception does the same thing for both phones. i'm not sure if any of that info is helpful but i'm just trying to get this thing working.
bb is correct. cydia is updated and ultrasn0w is the latest release (1.2)

The only thing I can tell you is to try another SIM, wait a bit longer, or restore to a custom fw. It should be working, if not you'll just have to keep trying any of the above listed.
