4.3 w/baseband 04.10.01
A friend of mine had a problem with his iPhone 4 and had to send it back to the factory. When he sent it out, it had 4.2.1 and baseband 03.10.01 and when he got it back, it was at 4.3 and 04.10.01. Before he sent it, he did save his SHSH's with Tiny Umbrella, just in case. Now, for whatever reason, he can't downgrade back to 4.2.1. Near the end of the downgrade, iTunes throws the 1013 error at him. I've already had him try to edit the hosts file to point at Cydia and it still does not work. It gets stuck in recovery loop and he can't kick it out using RecBoot, iReb or TinyUmbrella, so he just has to restore back to 4.3, in order to have a working phone. Any reason for this? He'd like to downgrade to 4.2.1, so he can jailbreak, of course. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SHSHs from another device won't work on any other device.
He is stuck with 4.3.

It's the same device...In fact, he just told me that when he got the phone back, it was still at 4.2.1. After it went into recovery loop the first time, he had restore and update to 4.3 in order to have a working phone. And he saved the SHSH after he got it back, but BEFORE the attempted JB and restore.

Ah I see. Let's start over from the beginning then.
What machine are you guys running on and are you using the latest iTunes and TinyUmbrella?
I believe 4.2.1 is still being signed so you'll want to disable from pointing to Cydia's server.
Change host files back to normal and in TU, go to advance and deselect for it to direct to Cydia on exit.Last edited by i.Annie; 03-10-2011 at 06:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

He's running a PC with Windows 7. I've already had him edit his permissions, so he can play with the hosts file without Windows freaking out on him. I'll give him a call and try this again.
And should he start TSS server before doing the downgrade though iTunes, or no?Last edited by Kareen; 03-10-2011 at 06:59 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

You definitely want him to unselect the option in TU to point to Cydia on exit.
And set those host files back.
SHSHs aren't needed for 4.2.1 right now, and it might be interfering rather than helping.
No don't use TinyUmbrella. Just make sure it isn't pointing to Cydia's server on exit, then exit TU and do the restore.Last edited by i.Annie; 03-10-2011 at 07:01 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Yup, deselecting that option in advanced then closing tiny umbrella will set your hosts back to Apple, which is what you want right now.

Was wondering when you were gonna show up for this. Thanks for confirming, I wasn't 100% sure about my advice.

4.2.1 downgrade is a success! I'm going to have him hit it with some Greenpois0n and see how that goes. Thank you!!! I'll keep you updated as per how the JB goes... :-)

Awesome. But wait let me post some instructions for greenpois0n. It can be a little tricky to get it to work the first time.
Greenpois0n
1) turn device off
2) hold power for 2 secs, then hold power+home for 15 secs, then release power and hold home. Don't let go of home.
3) Open GP and hit jailbreak.
4) If it fails, close GP and do above steps again. Then open GP and hit jailbreak.
5) repeat above steps until you get it to proceed.
6) Remember, do not let go of the home button. Keep holding until all the codes are done and the Apple/Greenpois0n boot logo shows up.Last edited by i.Annie; 03-10-2011 at 07:37 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Cool, thanks. I ran RC6 on my phone without a hitch, so it shouldn't be a problem. SHOULDN'T. Haha.

I actually ran GP on 5 different iPhone 4's (2 AT&T and 3 Verizon phones) and had an issue on all of them. That's why I said
I used those instructions to get all 5 up and running. Good luck!
