I have an iPhone4 that I JB with limera1n. The current iOS is 4.1 (8B117). I would like to upgrade to 4.2 and it seems that Green-poison is the answer, but when I read the directions it advises to update with iTunes then run GP... My question is, is this the correct process? I purchased MyWi, if I upgrade, how do I get it back on my phone? Sorry for the stupid questions, but my main reason for the JB was to install MyWi and I don't want that to disappear!! TIA!!
Yes you will need to update to 4.2.1 first, do not go to 4.3. Once on 4.2.1 you can use greenpoison to jailbreak again. Then just redownload mywi, you wont be charged again for it.
You need to manually download 4.2.1 first then hold down shift or option (depending on if you are on windows or Mac) and click update. A window will open where you can choose your firmware that you downloaded.
You are on official carrier right?
btw if you havent already save your SHSH with tiny umbrella.

So let me clarify... Plug my iPhone in, start iTunes, option+shift when asked to upgrade, choose 4.2.1. I am on a Mac and with AT&T. I haven't used tinyumbrella, do I need it?
After doing it all just use tiny umbrella to save your 4.2.1 SHSH while you still can before Apple stops signing it. Otherwise if you try to restore again at a later date you will be forced to 4.3
I was tracking, but I'm still a bit twisted... Option-Update? When I connect my iPhone it will say there is a new version, I press the OPTION KEY? or is there an option in the update? I backed the SHSH up with Cydia, but I'm better off doing it with TinyUmbrella also? And I would need to run TU before upgrading via iTunes correct? Sorry, but I don't want to screw this up, I'm going on a long distance trip soon and need my unlimited data wifi!!!
Say no to the update pop-up. Then hold down option on your keyboard and click update. A window should pop up where you can choose your firmware.
If you saved your SHSH with cydia then you are fine. Although it is good to do it with tiny umbrella too. You can do that after you are done with the update though.
