iPhone 4 jailbreak issues
hello all.
first of all, i'd like to make a preliminary apology to the moderators if i've broken the rules/regulations for posting new threads. i'm brand-new here, so cope with me please.
now, down to business: i've recently purchased an iPhone 4, which is running firmware 4.2.1 (without a sim card for the time-being). having found some useful and promising .ipas, i've decided to jailbreak my device to gain access to these tempting applications. however, this is where the problem begins: having tried nearly all jailbreaks (greenpois0n just doesn't seem to work, i've tried both rc6 and 5, with the inevitable "try again" result) and limera1n resulting in my device being stuck on the connect to itunes screen (and me having to restore, which happened twice) i just cannot seem to figure it out. i'm running on vista ultimate, and am desperate for a solution.
yes, i'm a leecher and et cetera, but if a solution could be provided i'd be very glad. thanks in advance.

If you've found .ipa files that are "promising" then you got them from one of two sources: legally through the App Store, or illegally through cracking DRM and/or piracy.
If you got them legally, they're correctly signed by Apple, and will run on a stock iPhone--no need to jailbreak anyway.
If you got them illegally--no cracking of DRM or piracy discussion is allowed here. Adiós, you're on your own.

how i acquired them is irrelevant, orbyorb. if you'd be so kind as to read the title of the thread, then the issue at hand would be made evident. piracy has nothing to do with what i'm seeking, and i have been a reasonably loyal customer of Apple, but have decided to jailbreak despite this.
your righteous post hasn't exactly enlightened me

Well it kinda of does in the end. You are wanting to jailbreak to put ipas on your device. 95% sure it is the illegal source. In that case you will not find help on MMi.
Talk about cracked apps/warez/piracy is not allowed on MMi.

.ipa's are pirated material. All of them. You wouldn't be getting .ipa's if the apps were already free. You could just download from the app store then.
The problem is, you're indicating you're wanting to jailbreak to install those .ipa's. Unfortunately, any advice given would help you be a pirate. We do not condone that here on MMi, but I freely advise you that Google is very good. I've also posted in numerous threads that answer your question, so if you'd like that to be resolved, the search function on the top of the page is fantastic.

cheers to that haha!!
or you could just read his post, ignore the finding promising .ipa files online part(don't know why you even included that in your original post) and focus on his question of how to jailbreak his Idevice.
If you wanna crack apps keep it to yourself lol
Try PWN TOOL if your on mac.Last edited by Trypt4mine; 03-09-2011 at 11:23 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

you do not condone piracy and yet you dedicate an entire section of your forum to jailbreaking idevices? seems logical indeed. alright, i'm going to push the limits a little more and propose a hypothetical (or real, if you will) situation: an individual (whose name is censored for one reason or another) wants to jailbreak his iPhone 4, which happens to be running firmware version 4.2.1
that individual, however, is having difficulty in the jailbreaking process and requires assistance. a website titled 'modmyi' seems an appropriate place to seek solace, would it not? anyhow, i'll do some more digging and keep you legitimate app users updated.
sincerely yours,
PA.

Jailbreaking is not stealing. Please think logically before speaking. If your purpose in jailbreaking is to get warez, that's your motive. Many of us here jailbreak to open our phones up and install legitimate items that aren't stolen but also in fact paid for in Cydia in some cases.
So please don't try to justify anything when you have no idea what you're talking about.
Here's your solution so you can get to your stealing
1) limera1n doesn't work on 4.2.1, perhaps some research would have showed you that
2) greenpois0n, you should hold the home button the entire jailbreak process. If it fails the first time, re-do it continuously until it works.
3) maybe if your response to orbyorb wasn't so snide, you wouldn't be having such a hard time getting help. I've helped members without hesitation regardless of their purpose to jb, if their issue is not related to piracy I still help. Because they are not trying to be "smart" about it.
I'm not here to argue with you, I'm just saying read the rules before posting. We don't discuss piracy. You wouldve known that if you did, then you wouldn't have said it and it would've been fine.Last edited by i.Annie; 03-10-2011 at 09:13 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

i understand, but attempting to justify 'jailbreaking' by claiming that it is used for legitimate reasons is bordering on hypocrisy. furthermore, arguing about the rights and wrongs of jailbreaking on a forum is rather silly, so i'll end it at this (with all due respect). i have managed to jailbreak my device, so my mission is complete. i appreciate the assistance you provided despite my snideness, and i can assure you that if you reason with me i will do the same.

A lot of us dont jailbreak to pirate things. So it isn't hypocrisy.
I gladly help, I don't control what you do, I just don't like comparing jailbreaking and stealing. I also don't like people trying to justify something is ok when it isn't. 2 wrongs don't make a right.
I hope this has been helpful and your jailbreak experience will be splendid.

And that was for you. I did 6 iPhone 4's in the last week and had to do that on every one. Without doing so, jb failed each time.
Glad it only took you 15 seconds. It doesn't work like that for everyone.
