how to jailbreak iphone 3g (BB 05.13.04)

Am currently using a jaibroken and unlocked using ultrasnow iphone 3g running OS 4.0 having BB 05.13.04.Want to update to 4.2.1.Wan an untethered jailbreak and unlock.Also don't want to loose GPS functionality.
Green poison is out of question since i don't want to update to stock 4.2.1 and loose my baseband. So what to do??Should i restore back to stock 4.0 via itunes and then build/download custom firmware of 4.2.1 and then use redsnow for the unlock?Or is it better to build your own custom firmware??Which option is less risky??What is the exact procedure to be followed?

Also i have two sims:-- not too sure which one of them is the original sim?Is that gonna be a p[roblem??

You would need to make a custom 4.2.1 firmware with pwnage tool or snowbreeze to preserve you baseband.

^^ Is there a chance of something going wrong while doing that or isd it safer to just download custom firmware from the net?? Also how to go abt jail-breaking??Do i have to restore to stock 4.0 via itnues since i am alrdy jailbroken and then update to custom 4.2.1 or just directly update to custom 4.2.1 via itnues??

It is safer to make your own custom firmware. You dont have to restore to 4.0 first. You can just go directly to custom 4.2.1.

I have iBoot-596.24. Is that new or old boot??
Also if i don't restore to stock iOS 4.0 first will the phone become more responsive after updation to 4.2.1 ?? I mean will all the apps that are currently installed continue to be there? Do i have to unlock it again ? Also i have two sim cards , don't know which one is original iphone card, will that be a problem while upgrading to 4.2.1??

Any guide to create custom firmware using snowbreeze??

And finally can i just follow this guide to to upgrade Iphone 3G 4.2.1 Using custom firmware.It's for 3gs but i gues the same procedure is involved for 3g as well right??

1. Connect your phone with PC and switch off...

2. Open redsnow and choose Original firmware...

3. If you have newboot just press "yes"

4. now click "Next"

5. Choose "Just Enter pwned DFU mode right now"

6 now click "Next" again "Next" and follow the screen....

After that open itunes and press "Shift + Restore" and choose custom firmware 4.2.1...

it will finish very quickly ......

Once you update you firmware....follow this...

1. Connect your phone with PC and switch off...

2. Open redsnow and choose Original firmware...

3. If you have newboot just press "yes"

4. now click "Next"

5. Choose Only "Install Cydia"

6. now click "Next" again "Next" and follow the screen....

If you r getting White Cydia Icon just switch of your phone and open redsnow choose Stock firmware 4.2.1 and choose the option "Just boot tethered right now" and click "next" again "next" then follow the screen...then you will see the cydia...

Finally you can see your phones is with your old Baseband. now just you can install the ultrasnow 1.2 from Cydia adding this link "ultrasn0w.com

Dont worry about your bootrom. That is only for 3GS. iPhone 3G is always untethered.

You are going to be restoring to a custom 4.2.1. You cannot simply update to it, so everything will be wiped when you do it.

There are steps in that guide that you dont need. You wont need to use redsnow after the process and you wont be asked that question about new or old model.

Any official carrier sim can be used to activate the phone after the restore. So if it is a ATT one just use that to activate with after. If this is the case make sure to not tell snowbreeze to activate the firmware for you when you are making it.

Okay thx a ton for your help x98car, i guess i just need a little bit more help in here.

I just created a custom 4.2.1 using snowbreeze and ya i unchecked that otpion to hactivate the firmware. this is the guide i followed.:-

1)run Snowbreeze 2.2.
2. Browse iOS 4.2.1 firmware and let snowbreeze verify the IPSW. Then click Next.
3. Now, select Expert Mode.
4. It will ask you to check the options. Select General and click Next.
5. Check the options you want to use. If you have an officially activated device, uncheck Activate my iPhone. Select other desired options and click Next.
6. Now, click ok Build IPSW and click next
7. It will now ask you whether you want to play Pacman or proceed with the process.
8. Once the IPSW is created, it will show you a confirmation message.

.now it's giving me the message that snowbreeze successfully created ipsw and press okay to put your device in restorable state.

So now all i have to do is follow the steps below right?:-

9. Now, connect your iPhone and follow on screen instructions to put your iPhone into DFU Mode.

* Turn off your device
* Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds.
* Then release the power button and continue holding the home button for 10 seconds.

10. Now, close snowbreeze and open iTunes to restore the custom firmware. Hold Shift, click on Restore button and browse the custom firmware we just created using Snowbreeze.

or do i have to connect it to red snow.Also while creating custom ipsw i think snowbreeze added cydia to the ipsw.So do i have to install cydia again using redsnow or only follow the steps mentioned in para 9 above ??

You dont need redsnow. Just use snowbreeze to put it into dfu.

did that.now in DFU mode. it's running iREB.What to do?There is a start at the bottom.But can't press it.nothin happens.When i minumise it. i Get the message waiting for iBSS

Should i just close it and launch itunes?

Ok, then just use redsnow to enter pwned dfu. Then shift restore to the custom firmware you made in itunes.
