iPhone 3G - Jailbreaking options
Hi all,
I have a iPhone 3G on 4.2.1. It is running baseband 05.15.04.
What are my options for jailbreaking? Is the only current option to upgrade to the iPad baseband?
New to jailbreaking so finding my feet. Any advice would be great

Redsn0w 0.9.6rc and sn0wbreeze i Think
You can jailbreak with greenposi0n. Now if you need an unlock then you will need to update to the iPad baseband. So the question is do you need an unlock.
Well my carrier o2 (UK) has just unlocked my iPhone as I have just left them.
Not sure if this is unlock will be permanent although it the carrier was unlocked through iTunes by apple.
I do need the carrier to remain unlocked.
Cheers
It will remain unlocked. Just jailbreak with what ever method you want. Don't upgrade you baseband

I suggest GP cuz of EPiC animated boot logos :troll:
So what would be the best option giving the lower spec on the 3G? Looking to jailbreak because my 3G is stupidly slow now on 4.2.1
I'd personally downgrade to 3.1.3 jailbreak with jailbreakme.com
Thanks for the info. I shall take a look

Greenpoison doesn't work on iPhone 3G. Doing as westerman said is probably your best bet.

Sorry if this is noobish but what fw is blackrain for? And limera1n?

blackra1n was for 3.1.2. Limera1n for 4.0-4.1.
Blackra1n does work on iPhone 3G however it doesnt install a working cydia anymore. Limera1n does not work on iPhone 3G.
Blackra1n is for 3.1-3.1.2
Limera1n is for 4.0-4.1

Just put your iPhone into DFU then shift restore to a 3.1.3 firmware in itunes. When you get error 1015 use tiny umbrella to exit recoevery.
