I dunno - I used iPhone Explorer and after a while it crashed, taking the /var/stash/Applications.xxxxxx apps with it (I hear its happened to a number of people). I lost about all of them, but iFile and some others were saved cuz I pulled the plug out. So I reinstalled the deleted Cydia with iFile and reinstalled my jailbroken apps but I'm still missing stock apps like iPod, Phone, Camera, Messages, Game Center, App Store, Mail etc. (I'm have an iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1)
Will an iPhone update with iTunes (NOT Restore) get me these apps back? Or is it only Restore that gives these apps back? I need to know - I can't use the damn thing for calls or sms either - could get dangerous. o.o
I don't want to restore because I forgot my backup password and can't remove it.
Thanks
Oh, and will updating keep all my data? is only the system partition updated or does the data partition get affected somehow too?
I would of thought that the iphone os has the phone, ipod etc apps as standard and if you have managed to remove them - a restore may be the only way to fix
Personally - I would do a full restore, re-jailbreak it, and go from there. If you have a backup that you can use - then fine, if not so be it
well, as i said, I don't know the password for my iTunes backup files so resoring's not really an option for me...
i don't want to go through with this unless someone's done it before and is SURE that an upgrade'll fix it. I appreciate the help though - but I have too much to lose by attempting then finding out I have no data left.
ive decided to go through with it and restore back to 4.2.1. I know about 4.3 but as you all know, there's no official jailbreak for it (no, pwnagetool is a last resort) and there's that ASLR or whatever in it so i don't think it's worth it for Personal Hotspot and a faster Safari.
and the backup? ah, stuff it. i'll just backup what i can with ssh and who cares anyway, right? as long as i can call someone and have the ability to actually END the call. or download some apps from app store. or listen to music without having to whip out iFile every time.
