Default 3gs unlocked/jb and reset, hangs at bootlogo

I have a 3gs that was j/b and unlocked and working on another carrier. It was supposedly done with redsn0w, sometime last August or September perhaps. The guy I got it from reset it to remove all of his data, and now it hangs at the bootlogo. This tells me it is a tethered jail break, I believe. What do I need to do to correct it? I do not have the ISPW. Any suggestions would certainly be helpful

That doesnt mean it is tethered, that setting always leaves you in boot loop if done on a jailbroken phone. You should use pwnage tool or snowbreeze to make a custom 4.2.1 firmware and restore to that. That way you should still be able to unlock after.

Yep, like he said. Firmware files are corrupted, but a restore using custom firmware (or official and then a jb) will bring your phone back to life.
