Default Questions about backup/sync with jailbreak

    Hello all,

I have an iPhone 3GS and a Mac. I might get the iPhone 5 if it impresses me, but until then I'm considering jailbreaking my current iPhone, which is running iOS 4.0.1 right now (but soon will run iOS 4.3).
I have somewhat simple questions about jailbreaking with any iOS firmware:

Can I still sync with iTunes? (This includes iCal, Address Book, etc)
Will the back-up in iTunes be a backup with the jailbreak, or without?
And will the backup be just like the regular backups iTunes makes right now? (You know, messages, photos, contacts, mail, pretty much the entire iPhone)..

Also, will I be able to download new App Store apps after jailbreak, or will I be limited to "Cydia"?

Thank you very much in advanced...

Yes you can still sync with iTunes. If you were to restore from the backup you would need to re-jailbreak. The backup will be like a regular backup. Of course you will be able to download AppStore apps and cydia apps.

Everything with iTunes works the same exact way after jailbreaking. However, iTunes does not back up your jailbroken apps. All other apps will be synced and backed up like normal.

Do the jailbreak! It is so worth it. I wouldn't even want my iPhone 4 if I couldn't jailbreak it. Enjoy!

Thank you all for your reply.
I really want to make sure that I can get a proper complete back-up after I jailbreak, so forgive me for being a bit redundant here. Just one last question: Will the complete back-up work with all jailbreak options and iOS firmwares? (I know iOS 4.3, which is coming out soon, already has a different jailbreak while the current iOS 4.2 has a different one?)

It is indeed good to hear that iTunes sync will work normally and (hopefully) flawlessly. And definitely good to hear that a complete back-up can work so if I do get the iPhone 5 this June, it will be just like my current iPhone (minus the jailbreak of course).

    Thank you in advance!

I dont see any reason why your backup wouldnt work if you update to 4.3

Im not sure about putting your 3GS backup onto an iPhone 5 when it comes out, we will have to wait and see.
