Update Question
I have an iphone 3g with version 2.2.1 (5H11)
modem firmware 02.30.03
I want to update the firmware to 3.0 or higher.I used Quickpwn to unlock\jailbreak it originally. All of the info I find is 2-3 years old, since I have not updated in so long and I am afraid that the old guides may be missing some steps that should be taken today. If someone could give me quick run down on how I should go about this or a link to guide I would appreciate it.

I would suggest download 3.1.3 firmware. Shift restore to that in itunes. Then you can use redsnow 0.9.4 (point it to a 3.1.2 firmware, so you will need to download that too) and choose to install cydia. Once cydia is installed you can install ultrsnow to unlock.

It looks like I will get a "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported." message since I am not on ATT when I shift restore in itunes. What should I do about this?
Thanks

Ok I think I have everything done. One last question when I connect to itunes it is at the "set up your iphone" screen.Should I "set up as a new iphone" or "restore from the back up"?
Thanks
