newbie ! go easy on me ! 4.2.1 firmware

so i havent had to jailbreak a iphone since i had a old iphone 3g a long time ago.
have recently bought a 32gb version thats locked to vodaphone (uk)
running 4.2.1 firmware.

what i would like to know is can it be jailbroken and more importantly can it be software unlocked so i can use it on giffgaff.

Don't think you can unlock 4.2.1, however 4.2.1 is easily jail breakable I've jail broke my iPhone 4 using 4.2.1 via greenpoison

yeah i think i got the whole jailbreak thing using greenpoison covered but i have since read this :
Process of Unlocking iPhone IOS 4.2.1 are as follows:

Start Cydia on your device.
Click on “Manage” Tab and proceed further.
Now click on “Sources”.
Click on Edit and Add url : http://repo666.ultrasnow.com and Add it.
latest Ultrasnow 1.2 will be offered, install it and this will automatically Unlock iPhone IOS 4.2.1 and you are done enjoy the Unlock iPhone IOS 4.2.1

and from reading that it seems to say that i can sim unlock it using ultrasnow after the jailbreak.

Ah yea your on iPhone 3, yea add that source via Cydia once it's installed it all and it should all process and work after that

Dan I made a thread on this, Iphone 4 is usually Modem 3.10.01 it cannot be unlocked with 1.2 you will have to wait for 1.3 its should be released next week with Ipad 2 just hold tight till then

the only other way to Unlock now is to replace the baseband with an Ipad baseband but this can cause problems and I for one am not willing to cause myself problems when in a week it will work.

Read the Untlrasnow on Cydia, it tells you the basebands it can unlock.

The iPad baseband thing is just for iPhone 3G/3GS. It will not work on iPhone 4. DRFP is right, shouldn't be much longer a wait for an unlock for iPhone 4 though.

ahh brilliant news....i dont get my new iphone 4 32gb till friday anyway , so i dont mind about the wait.
aslong as i can use my truly unlimited data using giffgaff i will be well happy.
