Another Jailbreak/unlock question and advice needed.

I picked up a 3GS 16gb model MC136LL with 4.2.1 on it (No shsh . It is currently stock, has not been jailbroken. I want to unlock it, but the new pwnage tool 4.2 doesn't have the ability to convert the baseband to the ipad one for whatever reason at least it didn't ask me if i want to.

I downloaded the unlock edition as well but it says there is an error when trying to pick the 4.2.1 ipsw to create the firmware. so i still can't unlock it.

What is the order of operation i should be doing to achieve all this? Do i need to create a custom firmware first? Or is it worth waiting for the unlocks that are coming up after they drop 4.3?

I would wait for 4.3 just to see if a non ipad baseband unlock is released. 4.3 is only 8 days away and jbs & unlocks will be sure to follow shortly.
