Clearification Please 3GS

I have read the threads and searched the forums, i just want to make sure my thought process is correct. Last time i spent a week banging my face on the keyboard because of a simple mistake. And when i asked it was resolved very quickly with the proper guidance.

I want to jailbreak because i need something to stop these daggum spam texts at all hours of the night. I get spam from the provider all the time as well, its driving me crazy. I cant even read them.

From what i have read all i need to do is run green poison to jailbreak because i do not need a unlock. This process is does not wipe the phone because there is no firmware install. Is this correct, i wont be able to try until i return from this training exercise and get on my main computer. Your input is valuable, this phone is my life line to the states and i dont want to jack it up. If there is a chance it will disable any function then the process is a no go and i will just have to suck it up.

If you are on 4.2.1 then greenpoison is correct. It will not wipe anything, just jailbreak.

Yes 4.2.1 sorry forgot to add that, it was late when I posted. Thank you, I'll give it a try when I get back to garrison, don't want to chance Murphy's law and jack anything up away from my main system.
