hi all! i have posted a few questions, but this post is more a request for advice. i promise i have searched high and low for an answer but to no avail. i would hate to be one of those people that posts something that could have been answered by simply searching.

anyhow, here is my situation:

my partner has had a jailbroken, unlocked iphone for awhile. she has 3. (firmware 5.) at first, all was well, but over time the phone has been acting buggier and buggier. some mornings she has no service and has to remove and reinstall the sim card for it to come back. the phone will, on occasion, call people on its own, even though it is locked. it has also been getting slower and slower as time goes on. we have a spare iphone in the house that has the same software (it was my step-daughter's, but she switched to an android because she was having the same problems as my partner.), so i offered to try to jailbreak and unlock it for her. why oh why did i do this? lol. let me explain that i am a blackberry user and i have a pc. my partner? iphone user and has a mac. i was really venturing into unknown territory here, but i figured what could go wrong, right? i helped them jailbreak the phones the first time anyway.

i tried to using greenpois0n, but i kept getting "Try again". i know how to put a phone in DFU mode and itunes was even recognizing a phone in restore mode, but greenpois0n didn't. since i'm jailbreaking on my computer and not hers, i don't want her to have a tethered jailbreak. i have a pc, she has a mac. plus, she is famous for running out of battery. if that happened and she wasn't home, then what? anyhow, greenpois0n was giving me no love, so i tried redsn0w. i was at least able to jailbreak it and update the baseband. i unlocked it using ultrasn0w. it is working fine, but i would still much rather have a untethered jailbreak for her.

anyone have this problem and get around it?
