Default iPhone 4 stuck in loop after reset

    Hi guys,
I'm getting ready to sell my brother's white iPhone 4 that's jailbroken and unlocked on 4.0.2 and while searching around for an easy way to clear his data I found a solution saying to use the function in settings>general. This has me in a situation that leaves me stuck at the spinning wheel over the Apple logo? I have a strange suspicion that this is by design but that's beside the point. I can get it into recovery mode and once it's there it's visible with iTunes but I absolutely DO NOT want to restore. I changed my settings in the iTunes program folders to sync with Saurik's servers and downloaded the 4.0.2 .ipsw to restore that in iTunes but it says that the .ipsw wasn't recognized. I don't know what the case there may be other than the EXTREMELY slow internet I've been on lately may have messed up the file download (just a guess) and it's incomplete. Can anyone offer me a solution on what to do? I'm going to school tomorrow and will download the .ipsw from there just to be sure. I had this thing working perfectly and then screwed it up. Help me get out of a jam, please!

Any thoughts or ideas? I'm also wanting to know if the situation that I'm experiencing is such that I should restore in iTunes to 4.2.1 while it's available and hope for an unlock available today or tomorrow.

If you have your 4.0.2 SHSH blobs backed up you should be able to use Tiny Umbrella and run the TSS server and restore to 4.0.2 just fine.

You can restore to a custom 4.2.1 made with pwnage tool or snowbreeze so that your baseband is preserved. That way you will still be able to unlock it now.

Well it seems like I was right about the incompleteness of the previous 4.0.2 .ipsw I downloaded as I checked the old one's file size in the recycle bin and it was 87.1MB. So I used the one I downloaded from school yesterday and tried to restore in iTunes with TSS Server in TinyUmbrella running. My 4.0.2 SHSH blobs are saved and my iTunes redirects to Saurik's server so I don't know what the hangup is. When doing this should I leave it in recovery mode or put it into DFU mode?

I just tried Limera1n and it got to the green rain drop screen with the spinning wheel and it said it was exploiting it and that it was finished. Eventually the rain drop screen went to the Apple logo which resulted in the spinning wheel freezing again. I'll try again.

Should be in DFU when restoring.

Well I got it into DFU mode to restore to 4.0.2 in iTunes. I ran iREB first, then started the TSS server in TinyUmbrella and tried it. I got very far, all the way to about halfway through a progress bar. Then I got error 1004. Now I don't have a display. Or at least if it's just DFU mode, nothing will get it out of it. Probably because it doesn't have an OS to even consider loading. I've also run just TinyUmbrella and gotten errors (1600/1604) so the only thing I haven't tried is iREB by itself. This thing is making me pissed at this point.

I've attempted that twice now. Once without TinyUmbrella running and once with. A different error each time but neither one worked. All of the fixes keep telling me to change the ip association in my hosts file but mine is already on Saurik's. I'm officially out of options. Screw you Apple.

You have tried restoring to a custom 4.2.1 firmware? Try using redsnow to enter pwned DFU first before restoring to the custom firmware in iTunes.

Yes, a custom 4.2.1 firmware I just created with sn0wbreeze. It didn't work in 2 attempts. I've already gotten into a pwned DFU mode with iREB.

Try pwned DFU with redsnow, much more reliable than iReb.

Alright, now since it's 4.2.1 with 1.59.00 baseband do I want to still use redsn0w 0.9.6b6 to jailbreak? Any special instructions given my .ipsw state? Thanks again for all the help you've been so far.

Well I did previous to all of this junk but not since I did a restore with the custom sn0wbreeze firmware. It wouldn't let me do expert mode and include Cydia because I had to use the baseband preservation mode.

Snowbreeze always preserves baseband. You could have picked expert mode and would have been fine. You may as well just use greenpoison on it now though. That will give you a untethered jailbreak.
