Default Cannot upgrade to 4.2.1. Error 1015. Help!

Please, can somebody help with this issue. I have tried everything I knew - nothing works.

I got 3G with 3.1.3 on it, which worked totally fine until I decided to upgrade to 4.2.1. After discovering that it killed my GPS I thought of downgrading back to 3.1.3 to see if it would fix that problem. I downgraded with recboot but off cause the base-band was already changed to 06.15.00, so no GPS.

Then I wanted to go back again to 4.2.1 but as I upgraded I got iphone stuck in recovery mode(with itunes logo) on 1015 error.
I tried to kick it back using various tools as tiny umbrella or recboot - no result.

The only thing I could manage was to put it back to 3.1.3 and then revive it with one of those tools. ( which did not work on 4.2.1)

Now the question. Can I still upgrade? Is there a solution?
    Thank you

You need to make a custom firmware with pwnage tool or snowbreeze and restore to that if you want to go back to 4.2.1

What version of pwnage tool did you use to make the custom firmware?

I think he meant iReb. But that won't help error 1015. iReb is for fixing errors 16XX associated with pwnage tool and snowbreeze.

Yes sorry for the type-o. I was referring to IReb but it fixed my iPhone when I had that error.

    I used this tutorial:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3G Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.2.1]

Should be the right one for 3G.

You probably said yes to the iPad baseband then. You should have said no. That way you wont get the 1015 error. You can also use the newer pwnage tool 4.2. That one will definitely work.

did you have the same issue with upgrade as I? Or you were downgrading?
    What tutorial did you use?

Thanks a lot ! I'll try it out and let you know if it worked.

ok, this is my first post on this board but this sounds like the same problem i had last night when i was doing my second jailbreak ever. so, to possibly spare someone else the panic i went through, i thought i'd jump in and tell you what i did.

    1. create or download a custom firmware that doesn't include baseband info. i used sn0wbreeze since i have a pc. it allowed me a few options and i used the one that included cydia. when asked if you will be activating, say yes if you need to unlock after jailbreak (which i did)

    2. put phone in DFU mode (in my case i had to use redsn0w to do that)

    3. open itunes. it will recognize a phone in recovery mode.

    4. hold shift and click restore. this will let you pick the firmware you want to use. select the file you created with sn0wbreeze.

    5. jailbreak again. i used redsn0w again and unclicked the box to include cydia since it was already in the custom firmware i had used to restore.

    i hope that helps someone.
