Been out or a while.....
What's up fellow modders. I'm looking for a refresher course on what's been going on since I haven't jailbroken another iPhone since the initial i4 launch. I currently have (2) i4's that are currently running 4.1 with baseband 2.10.04. Both phones have been shsh'd an is reflecting on cydia all the way up to 4.2.1. Now I've read around and I'm pretty sure but I want to confirm. From what I'm reading, as long as you have your SHSH on file you can always downgrade baseband to an unlockable one. I want to update both phones to the most current firmware but don't want to lose the ability to unlock for when I go to flip this sucker for an i5. Am I able to just upgrade via iTunes and jailbreak with redsnow and that's it? No future concerns.
Thanks in advance guys

Your i4 are on baseband 2.10, which isn't unlockable. You can downgrade but that wont downgrade the baseband only the firmware.
You need to use PwnageTool to make a custom firmware but make sure you enable Baseband Preservation, then just put your device into DFU Mode then restore in iTunes with the custom firmware.

Dam that's strange I never really update unless the phone starts acting up....and then I wait to confirm the unlock status to always keep mine open.
Wonder where I missed that 2.10.04 wasn't an unlockable BB.
Since my SHSH is saved....can't I just update via iTunes and standard jailbreak? If I can't unlock now then what's the point of preserving anymore.

Yes, if you want you could do that. Just update your iPhone to 4.2.1 and then jailbreak with greenpois0n.
