EVO / iPhone
Hello everyone, excuse me if this is the wrong forum, but I'm thinking of switching from the EVO the iPhone in a couple months, do to service reasons.
Personally, I am an Android ROM developer and hacker. I haven't looked into iOS at all really.
Any experienced devs or users that could explain the whole "jailbreak" and how would you compare it to rooting an Android device?

jailbreaking pretty much gives you accses to the whole iphone file system....
the value of the jailbreak depends on the model of iphone that you have....
for iphone 2G and 3G is very useful

Jailbreak is pretty similar to rooting. Jailbreak gives you full access to the filesystem on the phone and allows access to applications that apple would not approve. I think jailbreak is needed more on iOS due to the restrictions apple imposes.
If you are an android fan, both At&t and verizon offer some nice android phones. I'm curious why you're thinking about switching to iphone but aren't familiar with iOS?

Give iPhone a go. If you don't like it within the first week, return it and get an Android instead. Most people like the iPhone and even more after jailbreaking, but I do know of some people who actually don't like it. The best to do is to get one, jb it, test it out, if you love it keep it! If you hate it, restore and return it.

I have an iPhone 4, and I personally would never give an iPhone up for anything. There's a lot of things that can happen with a jailbroken iPhone, and there's too many to list.
It's something you have to figure out and spend time with the phone to really know if you are liking it.
My personal fav aspects of the iPhone 4 of what I've noticed seems to be better than an Android is the app store. Sure android marketplace has a ton of stuff too but the app store definitely has more. Also, the quality of the apps and games are nearly identical, but the iPhone 4 runs the games much more smoothly than most. The retina display is also amazing, makes the graphics look even better. Jb to apply speed tweaks make the phone even faster than it already is.
Its just a lot you can learn and do with an iPhone.

iOverclock is available in cydia, though I haven't tested it yet. And there you can overclock in ssh, I haven't tried this either.

Respect for wanting to learn about iOS! I've had several iphones & android phones and it's pretty rare to find someone who's actually open minded in the different areas, at least from my experience.
