Default I'm new to Jailbreaking and I have questions!

I'm new to jailbreaking and I have questions about Winterboard. If this is the wrong forum, I apologize ahead and request that this topic be moved to the right place.

I've found that some of the options in Winterboard, that should work on my iPhone 4 and iPad, aren't. After looking around in Cydia a bit I have seen a few places that mention the need to place the themes in a specific order. For example, that one theme option you want needs to be on top of another that you are also using. How does this work? I think this is the reason that some of packages I have installed don't work.

Some files override others. Like if I had a complete theme for instance (we will call it Theme X), and I place a standalone lockscreen theme on top, the lockscreen theme in most cases will override Theme X's lockscreen modification(s). If I then move Theme X to the top, the lockscreen theme will not apply because it is not placed on top.

This is USUALLY the case but sometimes, it isn't.

interesting. I did place a clear folders theme on top of everything, but it didn't work at all. How do you figure it out? Do you just mess with it until it works or there are no other configurations?

It's hard for me to really tell you what is going on bc I don't know what your are trying to make happen. Could you be more specific as to what you want to do and what themes you are using?

Here is an example. I have been trying to get a theme for clear folders to work. I have tried a couple of different ones from different devs to see if they work. I have actually put them on the top of the list of themes, but they never work. I have not enabled more than one at a time, and when one didn't work, I uninstalled it before trying another. They haven't worked, though, even when they were the only themes checked. I also have a problem with some of the icon themes. I have an iPhone 4, and I have downloaded a couple of retina themes. Glasklart HD, for example, has an entry for "Glasklart HD Icons", and also another that only shows part of the name: "Glasklart HD Icons iOS 4....". I am assuming that the one that has the elipses means that it is made for iOS 4, or iPhone 4 specifically, but I'm not sure. I can enable the Icons one, and it will work, but if I do the Icons iOS 4.... entry, nothing changes. I am going to try to enable the iOS 4 version with it above the Icons version and see if it makes any difference. So, when it comes down to it, it's kind of a crap shoot whether a theme will work or not. I have a friend that told me, "Apple assigns everything a priority, so in Winterboard if something is placed higher in the list and those things in the list are to be used, the one on top of the list takes priority and trumps the things below."

The only thing I can really think of, is that the clear folders don't work on the fw you're on. Some themes actually require you to be on 4.2.1, whereas some cannot work on 4.2.1. So it just comes down to compatibility of the theme if you are on 4.2.1 and vice versa

They say that they are supposed to be for 4.2.1, but they might just be bad apps.
