How to upgrade?

Hi All,

I tried reading thro the forum to figure what to do ... but the messages confused me even more.

My question - I have a 3G (factory unlocked) tht I jailbroke. Its on ver 3.1.3 & modem firmware 05.12.01. I want to upgrade to latest/ ver 4.X. How do I do it & still keep the jailbreak?

You would have to rejailbreak after you update. For iPhone 3G use redsnow 0.9.6rc8 or pwnage tool 4.2.

So I just download the latest OS ver4 & update it as usual & then jailbreak? There is no chance of bricking my iphone while updating rite?

Just update like normal to 4.2.1 then rejailbreak it. As long as it is factory unlocked like you say you will be fine.

The most current version of redsn0w 0.9.6 (rc18 if I'm remembering correctly) should work for the 3G at iOS 4.2.1.

One more help - where can I find a step-by-step/guide to help me jailbreak using redsn0w? I cant seem to remember the steps.

Here is the guide , you can use Redsn0w RC8 to jailbreak as well.
